  4. In Cypress, It was called the Brat: http://www.subaru.com.cy/about/history/1977-001.html Check this out... Subaru BRAT From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. According to Subaru, the name BRAT was a backronym for "Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter." In Australia it was marketed as a Subaru Brumby, in Europe it was the MV for Multipurpose Vehicle, and in Israel it was simply the Subaru Pickup. Eventually, in North America the Subaru Outback-based Subaru Baja became hailed as "son of BRAT" when introduced in the early 21st century. i would assume that in japan, subaru kept the "brat" name. 6. In my EA82-T i purchased the mitzpah HLA and need to install it, when i recieved it, i didnt know if i should be able to push down on the spring and feel movement, or if i should be pumping it up first in an oil bath... any suggestions?? i found and read: http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~camncath/ea82_hydraulic_lifter_fix.htm just curious if anyone could let me know any secrets to the actual placement of these clicking ...friends. lol to pump or not to pump...... is this a valid quesiton!?!?
  7. Thats awesome! How nice it is when you can plug right into the fuse block, and have it all clean.... cool find!!
  8. Hey Everybody! i'm heading to the pick a part sometime this week, and theres at least 15 subaru's , all very close to complete.... Everyone in this Forum has been VERY helpful to me and my silly newbie questions.... i wanted to return the favor somehow, so lemmie get you something at the junkyard!! if you want me to get something for you... i need A) Engine Code for your car description of what i'm getting for you (and general location) C) Color *if its trim or something* D) anything else to make it easier for me to get it for you I have no problem picking up some stuff for people, and if i dont getcha tomorrow, i'll be going again in a week or two. no worries the idea is for smaller things... no transmissions or engines k??? lol i gotta get stuff for me as well I'll be checking this throughout the week. Hope i can help some people out, like you've helped me!! Later! Luigi
  9. *if you car is a sedan* i'm looking for the back BLACK piece that has the "4WD TURBO" sticker on the back... my sticker looks like $#!T ...do you have that? thanks!
  10. The Hydraulic Lash adjuster. Thats what i was told it was... the thing the rocker arm sits on and that holds it there under the cam... the thing that gives the rocker arm pressure so it doesnt just fall off... ...the thing that when it breaks, it makes your car run like poop. ... i'll order one for my EA82T even though the spec says EA82. thanks!!
  11. Is there a difference between an EA82 and EA82T Lash adjustor?? curious...
  12. DUDE thats SWEET! I'm Lovin it!!! Keep us posted!!
  13. DEFINITLY!!! Thats Super RAD man. and exactly what i'm going to be doing with my Gl10. your hood.. where did you get it!? thats awesome, i love the diving in instead of a scoop. very cool. TIS A SCRATCH!
  14. Awesome. Very informative. Again, i'l keep the forum informed. It was odd to see the HLA completly in two pieces under the valve cover. Strange. and a side note... that does PITA stand for?
  15. The idea for this car as of this point is i want to put as little money in it as possible... i just want to get it running so i can see if i want to keep it and turn it into a rally car. so! if i install the lash adjuster, by vice gripping the timing sproket in place, and loosening the cam as to slide the rocker arm in place (probably creating an oil leak) JUST TO GET IT RUNNING.... that is my plan.. if it runs awesome... awesome.. if it runs..... then it runs. then i'm going to purchase a new cam, and probably start rebuilding the engine... from the bottom up. if it doesnt run, then i'll instead put the money into a crate engine, and keep this one for spare parts. i just want it running, if even for a little bit... just to check out the drivetrain, and the rest of the car. IVE NEVER ACTUALLY DRIVEN IT. i purchased it, towed it home a month ago, and ive been working on it ever since, every weekend... I'm pretty mechanical, but never worked on an engine like this. i'm trying to keep the money low at first. any clever ideas would be AWESOME thanks!!!
  16. well!!! I took the valve cover off and BOOM! out comes 2 ...count them... 2 PIECES of a hydralic lash adjuster and a rocker.....on the intake side. so!!! Can a new hydraulic lash adjuster and rocker arm be installed without removing the cam? Is there enough room to install the lash adjuster in its hole, collapse it as far as it will go, then slide the rocker arm in place? i was thinking about loosening the cam...then sliding it under and popping it in... good? bad?
  17. PROBLEM Hydraulic lash adjuster failed, causing the loss of tension against the rocker arm. The rocker arm then slipped off the valve end and fell into the oil return hole. Once the rocker arm was gone, the valve lash adjuster was forced out of its recess by oil pressure. It separated, with one piece also going into the oil return hole while the body remained in the head, rubbing against the cam. All three pieces were recovered. QUESTIONS Can a new hydraulic lash adjuster and rocker arm be installed without removing the cam? Is there enough room to install the lash adjuster in its hole, collapse it as far as it will go, then slide the rocker arm in place? (somewhat unrelated) – Does the crankshaft have a key-way in it for the main “front engine” fan-belt pulley? The main fan-belt pulley can be turned (along with the water pump, alternator, A/C, etc) without the engine moving. I’m assuming the pulley has a key-way and that the key itself has sheared at the front of the crankshaft. Is that accurate?
  18. anyone else with a short throw shifter for an 87 GL-10????
  19. This article made me sad. For what its worth, my heart goes out to you and your co-workers. In the HUGE-LY populated area i live in, there are three Subaru dealers, and about 150,000,000 Kia, Daewoo, Geo, whatever other people drive dealerships. It makes me sad to see a Subaru dealership go under, instead of one of the others. I'm totally sorry. *sympathy*
  20. compression is up on all four cylinders.... Distributor to Rotor to cap, everything chcks out in that department... remember, i'm getting healthy spark. TomRhere.... good idea about pulling the cam cover off... i'll look into that... 555ron.... i'll check the valves by feeling them... any tips on how to do this??? OddComp..."my first guess would be maybe the belt on that side is a tooth or 2 off thus killing your cam timing and as a result your compression and drivabilty ect" "my second guess is someone put the distributor in 180 degrees out exactly opposite from where it should be lined up " these are all great ideas.... i'll go through them, and let you know...
  21. What you are about to read is a mystery..... If you choose to read the following and help solve the mystery, it will propel this young man, into the SCCA rally field... and onto certian glory... These are FACTS about my mystery. These FACTS have been proven unless stated otherwise.... EA82T engine missing on Cylinder 1. Switched the injectors from 1 and 3, still missing on 1. Switched the spark plugs from 1 and 3, plugs sooty all around, still missing on 1. Noid light on injector lines, firing. No problem. When you pull the injector wire, there is a slight notice in running (as in it runs worse, but only slightly worse), not as bad as when you pull the plug on any other cylinder..... and when you pull the spark plug wire off the #1 cylinder, there is no noticable change. Spark is reaching the spark plug.... timing was checked and is WAY off.... when distributor is retarded full, the engine runs best, when anywhere close to normal, engine runs poor... when injector fuel lines were removed to switch injectors, there was pressure. fuel was also in both lines, giving me the impression that fuel was passing through the injector, and when the injectors were switched, the miss stayed at cylinder #1 I'm thinking flat cam, or something to do with the rockers?? i read in both chilton, and haynes about that, and i ordered the "Subaru repair guide for the complete idiot" book, i heard on here its a good book to have, so i thought i'd take it upon myself to order, should be here any day. but i am at a loss.... I can't really think of what it could be.... besides timing, and could it be that its all it needs??? broken tooth on the timing belt? but then why is the missing #1, still missing, and only that wierd way?? The engine is telling me symptoms for something i cant read..... any ideas?!?!?!?!?!?! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
