  1. i think you're in the wrong place mike he got it right, he's in the NEW subaru forum. I agree, a knock sensor is usually about 70 bucks, and consists of having a 24mm or so socket, unscrewing it from the block, and screwing a new one in. connect your connector...and tada! maybe if you made a sandwitch or something inbetween it'd take an hour and a half... but i doubt it. i'd reccommend getting the part at like www.autopartswarehouse.com and then while you're waiting for the part, find exactly where it is, and get yourself the appripriate socket (24mm is for the old EA82T's... not sure on the new legacys) and you're good to go!
  2. that would be awesome. AWESOME. I would love to have a library of part numbers for ALL the trannys for 90-00 Legacys. If you know ANYTHING about the 6 digit serial # that follows the TZ number, that would also be appriciated. THANKS AGAIN!!!
  3. Ed, AWESOME!!!! I needed that thanks Duder! Keep em comin' Ladies and Gents!! Lets get those part numbers out there for people who don't have donor cars! Woohoo! Heres a random pic for all your trouble... Feel free to use this on the appropriate day... Luigi
  4. Thats awesome man! thanks for the heads up. i think i'll have all the hands i need, but its good to know theres someone close! if you have a wagon, could you go out and read me off the part number for your tranny? it should be like a: TZ###ZZ#ZZ 10 digits, and i think they all start with TZ. i'd like to have a bank of these #'s so when i go to the tranny shop, i can go *AH! this is from a 93 legacy and it has a 3.700 rear, from a NA car, i'll take it!" knowledge is power my brotha! haha thanks!!! Luigi
  5. the wagon is mine!! i'm sure you'll all hear about it wish me luck!! *and hope i find me some part numebrs!!*
  6. Iv'e got a 50/50 answer for you. When I pulled the driver and passenger valve covers, I also didnt want to spend 60 bucks... so I reused them. The driver side was no problem. No leaks, perfect. The passenger side had a small, small leak... just enough to smell. Damnit. So, its a gamble, definitly worth reassembling and seeing how it goes by reusing the gaskets, but chances are, you'll need to get new ones. .... or a new ONE
  7. Alrighty!!! Im narrowing it down (with everyones help!) i finally got the wagon!!! its a 1992 Touring Wagon LE. The transmission model is infact TZ102ZJ2AA . The SERIAL number next to it is 386030. SO! i assume there is a range for these serial numbers, as well as a DIFFERENT TZ number for the NA model of the 2.2 Liter. IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS A 1990 - 1996 LEGACY WITH AN AUTO TRANNY, 2.2 LITRE, COULD YOU PLEASE GO OUTSIDE AND READ ME OFF YOUR TRANSMISSION MODEL NUMBER? They are located on the driver side right on the printed metal plate as you stand at the driver side fender, almost on the strut. or you can look close to the flywheel and the sticker should be on the driver side again, very close to the starter motor. It'd be cool to use this post as a list for 4EAT tranny's. Get the Part #'s together, and really decipher which are which, and what part #'s go with which drivetrains. When i went to the used tranny shop, they walked me into the back and said: "here are the 6 we got, which one you want?!" and numbers were all over the place, as were serial numbers. i walked out shrugging. I'm SURE theres differences in the ranges of serial numbers. that would be great to know. anyone? thanks again!!! i couldnt do it without this site! ROCK ON!
  8. wow, that was a hell of a response!!! thank you!!! now my question is if the 92-94 tranny has a 3.900 ratio, does that mean a 90-91 tranny has a 4.11? what about the 95-96? is that a 4.11 as well? and if so...... check this out on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-96-SUBARU-LEGACY-4X4-AUTOMATIC-TRANSMISSION-EJ22_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33727QQitemZ8012480644QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW it says 90-96. *confused* does this mean its a gamble as to which it could be? is there this part number *below* that is located on a certian spot, that i could call ahead and ask the clerk to read to me? the part number that Legacy777 gave out "Turbo Legacy Auto Trans Part Number TZ102ZJ2AA " is that the tranny i need? thank you everyone for the input!!! i appriciate everyone's paitence!!!! be sure to check the marketplace for my pickapart runs!!! hopefully i can pay you guys *and gals* back in parts!!! Luigi
  9. well, if there is no such thing as a turbo 4EAT and a non turbo 4EAT, then i agree, but ... i'd like to know that first i do agree though, if the two co-exist, and there is only 1 4EAT, then so be it. thanks ed!
  10. found some stuff at the pick a part. looks like someone already changed out the linkages i found with poly one's!!!! NEAT!!!! thanks again for everyones help!! Luigi
  11. Hello Everybody! They should start a 4EAT section. lol , my question is about a 92 Legacy Touring Wagon (AWD)with a shot transmission *as i have deduced* http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46231 This model of the EJ22 is the turbo model *i assume its like the EA82's , just throw a T at the end* so an EJ22T, with the 4EAT tranny. How can i go to a transmission shop and know the 4EAT tranny is from a turbo car? Is there a serial number? are there markings? is there ANYTHING that would lead me to believe that the 4EAT was from a turbo car?? moving deeper, *literally*, what are the mechanical differences between the two 4EAT's?? is there any difference? i assume that you would need more clutch packs or something. ( a difference of 30 HP from the NA to turbo models would ask for a stronger tranny right? ) i will probably be driving from san francisco to LA, picking up a transmission, and driving back to SF, and i'd like to know EXACTLY what i was getting so i dont put it in, and have it burnt out quickly again *heavy foot* so if i can get the stronger model of the 4EAT, ...i want it! I'd like to be able to walk down the isle of the tranny shop, see 2 different 4EAT's on the shelf, and know one was from a turbo car, and the other was not. Thanks for the info, i'd be lost without everyones help!! thanks again! Luigi p.s.. just a side note, anyone know the rear end ratio for this wagon? i know i could look it up, and probably will, but if you know it, just throw it out there *high five* thanks!
  12. sounds like i'm going to be buying a 4EAT used and putting it in myself. thanks to all! incredibly helpful! i would love to do the swap... but it sounds like a HUGE amount of work. and i dont have a donar vehicle to take the parts from. thanks to all! Luigi
  13. haha, you're lucky, washington has been blessed from the subaru god. Cali is the same way, theres more close, but i had to drive 150 miles to get my GL
  14. Hello to all in the New Gen section! i'm always in the Older section for my GL-10 Sedan, but now i have the opportunity to acquire a 1992 Legacy Touring Wagon, and i need your help!! It has the 4EAT automatic transmission, and is SUPER strong in First, shifts into Second perfectly, then when it gets to third, it goes into third gear, but then slips into a neutral position, and will not go anywhere from there. i can then shift down and drop it into first or second and regain 1st and 2nd to drive away. Of course 4th will not follow, but i can feel it go into 3rd, but it doesn't hold. I checked the fluid on the car and it looked a bit low, and smelled a little burnt. It also looked more brownish then the red im used to seeing. This transmission also has a "MANUAL" button on the shifter that lights a light next to the "power" light (i assume the "power" light is the turbo creating pressure). Not sure what the purpose for either is. My Question is: should i pick it up?! i'm basically going to be given this wagon. So any money into the transmission will be the only money that will need to be put into it. i had 4 people in the car with me when i went to test the tranny, and the wagon pulled me and 4 of my friends all the way to 40 with reckless abandon. The car has the 2.2L *i believe, still learning* with a turbo, hood scoop, ect... super clean, and started right up with 180,000 miles. I have the room to fix it, and the tools... If i change the fluid, and filter, and have fluid to the CORRECT level, will it solve my problems? Is there a module/soloniod/band that controls the 3rd-4th gearing clutches that can be replaced? Can i drop the pan and fix whatever i need to fix? (I can rebuild engines, and do electrical no problem... an automatic transmission is the only thing on a car that is magic to me) Is there a type of Transmission Control Unit (TCU) Computer or something that might be faulty? if it was would it be connected to the engine computer, and flash a trouble code? (check engine light?) I've read about how everyone installs transmission coolers on this model (4EAT) because heat is its #1 enemy. Is this transmission toast? If it is, what am i looking to spend for a replacement (throwing the purchased tranny in the back of my truck, and taking it home) I can replace a transmission in a car... i just dont want to do it if i dont have to, ya dig? Any help in this would be GREATLY appricated. Im going to be picking up the wagon on friday of this week (11/11/05) unless i hear different from the USMB, so any info before then would be AWESOME. thank you!!! Luigi
  15. Hello to all those who appriciate craftyness when it comes to the man gettin' into your billfold. Welcome. My delimma... when i start to accelerate, i hear a *CLUNK* when i start to move forward.... thinking this is something in the rear end (probably a clutch in the LSD) or something along these lines, i go under my trusty sedan to find i can push on my rear end (go ahead, laugh) and it will freely move up and down with little effort. The rubber bushing within the metal bracket (circled below in World Rally blue ) was completly ...gone. eaten away by the misty mountains of northen california... or something. SO! my question was *with a little modification* could the bushing *circled in world rally yellow* fit into the metal bracket if there was no rubber bushing there? does anyone know the sizes? or is this a totally bogus idea.. My second question is What is this second rod for on the shifting linkage *below* and are the bushings that are connected to this rod important for the sloppyness i've been seeing? below is the full blown up diagram for the shifting linkage. I have circled what i am planning on purchasing in blue (if i can find them). PLEASE someone tell me what i have from this picture below (IE, both rods, i see the note saying FT 4WD only or something, whats this mean? do i need to get all the bushings? ), what i dont have, and what i need to get it shifting nice, clean and crisp. Does anyone know where i can purchase these bushings?!?! It'd be nice to be shifting nice and clean!!!! thanks!!!!!
  16. wow, your story sounds like mine.... Found a gl-10 sedan 150 miles from me... had to tow home... for about 200 bucks.. and 240,000 on the odometer... it had a bad lash adjuster and destroyed the passenger head... i agree with the timing belt NOT breaking under something like that.... the timing belt could have broken if it was 240,000 miles old. *raises eyebrow* dude, i'd go for it... if anything, to learn about these cars, i've learned so much, and mine screams up hills now i vote *thumbs up!*
