  1. Check out my Post over at RS25.com. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f190/t141851-constant-engine-knock-2000-2-5rs-video-am-i-fd.html Long story short, and up to date, I have a consisitant knock. Everyone says that its a rodknock. I didnt think so, I took the head off and found this... Insight??? Ideas??? Anything??
  2. Would there be bubbles showing up in the coolant overflow AFTER the car has been turned off????? Car off. Pop hood. Open Hood. See Bubbles. I would think the engine would need the car running in order to create exhaust gas bubbles? yes?
  3. Excellent ideas everyone thank you. So The bubbles also show up after the car is turned off ... dont know if that tells anything either... but i checked for flatness and the heads seemed ok before putting the head gaskets on.... but that definitly could be something, since i did it more out of novelty, since i thought you basically couldnt warp a subaru head. .... probably wrong on that one i'm going to try to inclined burping method, since the engine was completly taken apart and basically all the coolant was removed, also the radiator could be clogged as the previous owner did pour magic goop inside... All good stuff! the "overheating" problem is very hit and miss... we messed with the car last night for over 25 minutes (in 90+ degree heat in the sun) before we could finally get it to reproduce the symptoms, and after 30 feet... not even.. like 10 feet LITERALLY... the temp dropped over 20 degrees!!! in a second basically!!!!!! thats just crazy to me... i'll keep you posted
  4. there isnt any type of "bleeder screw" or anything to bleed the air out of the coolant system. Would (tomorrow morning after the car has cooled completly) leaving the rad cap off, and starting the car for a little bit allow the air to escape? How do you bleed the air out? is there a way to test for a clogged radiator besides buying a new one? (ran my IR thermometer around the radiator fins and saw no cool spots to indicate a leak) Also!!! went for a drive with a OBDII diagnostic scanner in my hand... watched the temp after coming to a stop and saw it get hot just once... then we moved not even 30 feet. and it was back to 196. how do i burp the system!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
  5. Ok, 1997 Impreza 2.2l Outback. Heres what was just done -New OEM Headgaskets -New waterpump -New OEM thermostat -New Upper and Lower Rad hoses -New Intake manifold gaskets -New OEM Rear Main seal -New clutch/pressure plate/flywheel/throw out bearing/pilot bearing -New coolant -New rad cap (not OEM, Stant 13psi) I hear theres an air bleeding procedure, yet i couldnt find it in any of my searches. Why are there bubbles in the overflow tank?? i did some searches that said 1) blown headgaskets (replaced) 2) Bad rad Cap (replaced) 3) bad water pump (replaced) 4) Bad thermostat (replaced) ????????????????????????????????? I have heat. Could there be a clog somewhere? the car gets warm when not moving, but then cools down. Electric fans are coming on.... I guess it could be the rad cap... not being an OEM... Clogged radiator?? I havent tested the coolant for exhaust gases. there is no black sludge or anything in the overflow to "say" that its headgaskets. The car had a "headgasket problem" before when my friend bought it. he drove it all over town before getting weary of the problems showing up, bought the parts, and we took it apart. any ideas?
  6. i Would LOVE to see someone make a youtube post on taking the casing apart and putting it back together. Like i've always said, automatic transmissions are magic... but if someone showed me.. i'd be ready to that that $#@^% apart!!!
  7. but wouldnt it be getting inside the car BEFORE the hatch is opened? the car remains completly dry inside... UNTIL the hatch is opened. ?
  8. :banana:Hello!! I have a friend with a 2001 legacy outback wagon that has a leaky rear hatch... well it fills with water and when opened, pours all over the cargo area. upon searching i found 4 reasons for this to be in the non-sunroofed stationwagon. 1) Leaky rear windshield. I looked all around the windshield, the seals appears undisturbed. she told me that she on occasion slammed the rear hatch pushing against cargo when closing (who hasnt) but nothing has hit the glass etc. 2) Moisture in the tailights. bad seal, water gets into the cabin. Tail lights look great, again, the hatch is sealed, no water gets in under heavy rain, only when opened. 3) Bad weatherstripping. weatherstripping looks great. cabin is dry. 4) crap stuck somewhere not allowing to drain. this is what i thought, but having no sunroof and all that drainage access boggles me. i have no clue. could it be the rear valence that says "legacy" or "subaru" or whatever it says back there? could there be a seal that let go or.. ? Also to clarify, its like theres a 2 liter bottle of liquid behind the licence plate waiting to rain on the inside of the car. I pulled the bottom plastics and didnt see anything that looked disturbed or clogged or... even moisture damaged. its wierd. Any help would be most appriciated. Becky says thank you. she's the sweetist
  9. Hello! does anyone know a part number for the short throw (STi) shifter kit for a 97 impreza outback? I have the sti short throw kit for my turbo legacy wagon, but i know i needed an adapter for it to hook up right. does anyone know if this is the same case? or do i just order one for a 2.5rs or ...something Thanks!
  10. So a buddy of mine slid off into the dusty dirtness on one of our highways, and f'd up his rear drivers side tire. when sitting behind the car, it looks like the tires go \----| <---so his driver rear tire is tweaked. Reading up, (and not having access to the car yet so i havent pulled the tire) it seems there isn't any camber adjustment on the 01 impreza coupe. Is this true? if so, what piece is most likely bent to make the camber so far off? any ideas would be great before i get his tire off. the tire seems like its not pushed forward or back, just bent... thanks!!
  11. i wonder what this dude has... i cant get a straight answer out of him
  12. I was curious if this car existed. theres one in craigslist.. but i didnt think that they made a 1990 GL wagon with a turbo, and only have it 2WD. i very well could be wrong thanks! Luigi
  13. FAULTY PLUG at the top of the fuel pump!!!! traced it and traced it... then a wiggle All is well and his H6 is back on the road. thank you to ALL!!!! Luigi
  14. The neigbor found this pump Walbro GSS341 fuel pump with kit. Will that pump and kit fit a 2001 Subaru Outback 6 cylinder? Thanks again! Luigi
  15. Got an email from my dad abotu a neigbors subaru outback wagon: The neighbor up the street has a 2001 Subaru Outback 6 cylinder automatic. It wouldn't start this morning. Ran fine last night. About 2 years ago, he had the fuel pump replaced (same symptoms). Almost 12 months to the day after the initial replacement of the pump (about 1 year ago), the car did the same thing it did this morning. He had it towed to the local mechanic, thinking the fuel pump went out again. Once at the mechanic, it started so the mechanic said he couldn't touble shoot if there was nothing wrong. It ran fine for the next year. Now a year later (this morning), the same thing has happened. No start. Engine cranks fine. No life. OK, here is what I know: Opening the fuel filler cap and listening for the pump, I hear nothing when the key is turned from off to on. Disconnecting the fuel line from the tank at the fuel filter and turning on the key gives you no gas. The fuel pump fuse is good. I could not locate a relay although I'm sure there is one. I don't think the relay is the problem for the following reason: I disconnected the electrical connector to the fuel pump (under the right side rear passenger seat). It has 6 female connectors. When you turn on the key, position #1 has 12 volts for about 1 1/2 seconds, then goes off. The next four pins have no power on key on. The 6th pin shows a constant 5 volts and remains on as long as the key is on. When you move the key to start, the first pin shows constant 12 volts (stays at 12 volts as long as the engine is cranking), the rest of the pins do the same as above including the 5 volt pin. I believe the power flow is correct. Should more than one of the six pins show 12 volts? What is the 5 volt pin (computer signal?) Does that power flow sound correct? It appears to be the fuel pump or the in-tank electrical connection to the tank. Is there any way to confirm the pump is bad, short of buying a fuel pump and crossing your fingers? Where is the best place to buy one? I tried 1st subaru parts dot com however they have the whole assembly for about $273. Other sites show a pump only for as little as $55. I did find a pump only, brand Airtex, for $130. Is that a good brand? Is there a common problem with the outbacks and their fuel pumps or the in-tank electrical connections? Due to factory problems, is it best to buy the whole assembly instead of just the pump inself? Could you put this problem on your Subaru site and ask the experts? Is the fuel pump bad again? Are there aftermarket brands to stay away from? Is ther some way to confirm the pump is faulty? Has someone out there bought an "inexpensive" pump and had good luck with it? And, lastly, although it looks like it is a very simple job, is there something I should look out for during the removal and replacement? Any help would be great!!! thanks everyone!!! Luigi
