  1. I thought if it was turbo it had 3.7, and n/a it was 3.9?
  2. Could you do us, me, a favor? Take a ton of pics because I plan on doing this in about a month, or do a discriptive message that's ease to follow. Later.
  3. I just up doing some info searching. I just found out what my tax return is and the wife said I can have $1000.00 for the Loyale. Suspension, wheel bearings front and back, bushings(nasty clunk in the back), and a clutch kit for my 5sp D/R swap. Oh and a 6 lug conversion. And if I have enough an AA lift. If I go over a little I just sweet talk a little. LOL
  4. Hello Troxxx, I just checked my VIN and the trans identifier is the 11th digit. I have a 3sp 1990 Loyale and my digit is "F". In the Chilton manual states that F=Gumma manufacture 4wd AT. "C" also is AT but FWD. I hope this helped. Later
  5. I totally forgot Troxxx is up there. Sorry about that. My Trans has 115,000mi with no problems. Silky smooth and no leaks. This wouldn't be ready until we thaw out a bit. Pluse dirt is cheap but the closer the dirt is the cheaper it is. Northguy is right, talk to Troxxx. Later.
  6. Hello fello Alaskan, I have a 3sp tranny that i might be willing to sell dirt cheap. It's in a 1990 Loyale, same thing as yours. If you are going to be doing any kind of crazy wheeling I'd be swapping in a 5sp d/r. I also have an 87 5sp d/r that I'm swaping out in the spring. Later.
  7. Hello, I have a stock 1990 Loyale 3 sp auto push button wagon that I take wheeling. With this car you are limited on what you can do but I am able to go on some great ATV trails up here in Alaska. You do have to hit some of the trails with some speed but she still goes. I want the dual range 5sp trannie so I bought an 87 GL wagon for a spring project. To answer your questions, it depends on the shape and price of the car. From there you should make your decision. Parts are like legos on these vehicles with endless possibilities. Do a search on the gallieres and you'll see what I'm talking about. These people have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to moding for cheap. I'm talking VERY CHEAP!!! Search Project Cheap. I say go for it if it's cheap. Later.
  8. Hello all. I have a non-lifted 1990 Loyale 3sp 4wd wagon that has been making a noise in the front end. I singled it out to my struts, pass and dr side front. When I push down on the vehicle I hear and feel a clunking noise comming from the top of each strut. I took off the rubber cap from the top of each strut tower and place my finger on the nut and can really feel the clunk. My question is, could this be worn out struts, bushings, or did the nut come loose? Also if it's the nut, can I tighten them with the struts in place or do I have to remove them? Thank you in advance for the advice.
  9. I forgot cat=catalitic converter and disty=distribritor cap. Have you had a resent tune up? You know fluids, wires, plugs, filters, etc? When I bought my loyale I took it from anchorage to copper center all loaded up for some salmon fishing. It took us 4hrs but I was getting 25-30MPG there and back. The whole way there was up the Mt and down the Mt driving. I think your car is telling you it needs a tune up or lay off the gas a little bit.
  10. Hello fellow AK subaru owner. I also have a Loyale, 1990 3sp auto and I'm getting around the same MPG. I think mines so sh*ty is because of my disty and I might have a cloged cat. One more thing, I start to get a little heavy on the gas when it starts to snow. I tend to take turns sidways a lot.
  11. Yes, good luck in Asscrackaztan! If I get extended here in AK I will also be in the waterless beach and not looking forward to it. As a weapons instructor focus on the dot(M68) not the front sight. Take care.
  12. Forgot to add that it is the 3.9. I found one and was just wondering if this was the same one that carfreak85 or, torxxx installed. I also called Subaru here in Alaska and they wanted like $1300 and some change. When they said that My Sh*t air seperator stuck open and now I have an extra mark on my BDU's.
  13. Is this the part# 27011AA131 for the rear diff that fits an on EA82 non-turbo? This came off a 91 Legacy turbo. If so I'm in for a swap.
  14. Thank you. I'm going to look a little bit more down here and in the palmer wasillia area in hopes for one or two. I'll let you know as well.
  15. Is there an abundance of these in AK that you know of, or anywhere else?
  16. Could I do this to my 90 Loyale, or would it be easier to a 3.7 to a 3.9?
  17. Congrats on making it to 21. You should be the bartender for the first song, Have a drink on me(AC/DC). Then get a double shot of Jack and water, just to keep you hydrated, and have a good looking hunny bring you more when needed and play She's got the Jack(AC/DC). I was DD for my brothers 21st and made him blow junks all over his VW fox. To this day he never lives it down. Happy B-day. Be safe and take everyones keys and stash them.
  18. Those rims KICK @$$. Did you get them from a local P&P or from another place. As for the lug nuts, I would just take a wire wheel or brush and go over them once. Take a toothbrush to the inside as well. Great rims.
  19. I'm a dumb A$$. I thought it was Cougar that needed the alternator. I'll just shut up and color for now.
  20. I have an alternator from an 87 GL that I'd be willing to sell. As for price, whatever it takes. Feel free to send a PM if you want it. I live on base so if you don't work on base I can sign you on. The guy who sold it to me said he put a new one on before it cracked the head and that was right before I bought it. Anyway, let me know.
  21. I also never thought the subarus was that good of an off road toy until my neighbor asked if I wanted to go salmon fishing after my deployment. I said that I would take my 90 Loyale and carry all the gear if he took his ATV. In AK they have this place called Peters creek or something like that. Well this place is full of off roading nutbars. I took my bone stock roo up almost all the ATV trails without getting stuck at all. There's also some sand that was calling my name. piece of cake. The funny thing, is that I had my 4 kids in the car wile doing this and they all fell a sleep after about a 1/2 hr. That was the best day I had with the roo. My neighbor was in shock that I was following him through the trails. The only thing I wish I had was the 5sp d/r. That will be put in after winter from my 87 GL parts car. Live it Love it Learn it!!
  22. I'd still be carefull. My parts car has a cracked head and does the same thing, hence PARTS CAR. The temp here in AK is like 9 and my soob will do the same but nothing serious.
  23. So how do you get the seal out without cutting it? My Dad almost always did that when I watched him. But I was young and stupid back then so I could be wrong. Now ask me a question about the M16, M4, M9, or other military small arms and I'm all over it. When I helped my Dad and Brother I was the welder or the tool getter, or the gun fixer.
