October 31, 200916 yr Ok, So I got this Wagon, Its a lifted beast. Ugly as hell, and when I got it the TOD was so bad I couldn't hear it but now That I fixed the TOD, I'm noticing Pinging. and a lack of power some times.. but seems to idle just fine, (sometimes its a little low.) Any Ideas? Also its not getting up to temp.. But I think that's because the thermostat, and or the leak in the lines, my next trip is to get new hoses, And stuff. Zach
October 31, 200916 yr Author Both things I'm gonna check What should the timing be at? and how do I check it, its a double vacuum advance?
October 31, 200916 yr I Assume it is an EA82, isn`t it? ... if So, to Check the Timin` take off the Rubber Cap at the Gearbox`s Top, it Hides the Flywheel with its Marks... then with a Timin` Light Gun, set the Timin` at 20º or Around 20º Should be Fine. Don`t you have Pics of your Subie? Kind Regards.
October 31, 200916 yr Timing for EA series carbs is 8 degrees. 20 degrees is for the various forms of fuel injection. GD
November 1, 200916 yr its a webberd spfi block, if that affectrs the timing I believe the 20 degrees is simply the lead-time for the ECU.
November 1, 200916 yr If anything, the higher compression would mean you would have to retard the timing. Maybe to 6 or 7 degree's. GD
November 2, 200916 yr Author Timing Was off the Scale, I couldn't even see the marks, brought it back down and its much better now... I just have to get the fan to shut off now...
November 2, 200916 yr Timing Was off the Scale, I couldn't even see the marks, brought it back down and its much better now... I just have to get the fan to shut off now... If you are going to use it as a Wheeler you'll want that thing to run all the time, Mine in the Wheeler is running one the key is on. Jeff
November 2, 200916 yr I also want this thing called heat in the cabin the most popular thread topic this time of year is about to reappear. that topic is HEAT.
November 2, 200916 yr Heh - yeah that's true about the heater core topic's. Hadn't thought of it but there will be a lot of frustrated people pulling dashes in nasty weather. It's kind of a rite of passage among Subaru enthusiasts - you haven't really loved a Subaru till you've replaced it's heater core, wiped everything under the dash down with disinfecting wipes, and replaced all the rotted foam on the ducting and flapper door's. Then succesfully reassembled it with everything operational. GD
November 3, 200916 yr Dude put the thermostat back in it then if you want some heat............ keep the fan running............ Jeff
November 3, 200916 yr i have an extra heater core you can have, along with the various trim pieces i dont need anymore
November 3, 200916 yr Author Heat seems to be there, now... not as warm as I want it to be... but its there. Timing seems nice.. I was cruising in 3rd on the freeway at 3500rpm, doing about 55 tonight on the way home... I want to get the Fan to Switch on and off like it is supposed too. (I'm anal about that.) I can switch Jump it when I go 4wheeling to keep it on, but for DD duty I would just like to get this started... But I'm gonna Start a new thread with how I got it, what I've done, and parts and stuff that I need for it...
