November 2, 200916 yr hey, i have an 87 gl wagon that is my newest project. i'm new to the suby world as well. can't find parts at all... looking for some help. right now got the axle back muffler off. looking for some kind of cat back to here that boxer rumble. going flat black with flat black stock 13's for now. limo tint all the way around tinted tails 8k hid's want to slam it but 1: im broke 2: ive never cut springs 3: cant even find anything aftermarket for the car and a good system.. any input or ideas from anyone?
November 2, 200916 yr find time to get a seasonal part time job and get real suspension parts after the holidays. cutting springs is just not safe (ok, thats debatable). Do a search and see what coilover setups people use (although, most people here lift up the cars vs drop). i think there was someone using the cheap ebay setup, rides stiff as hell but it'll probably give you the lowest drop. November 2, 200916 yr Project murder wagon huh:-\ Well to each there own. As far as aftermarket support goes, these vehicles have none. You can do searches but pretty much, cross breeding subarus will get you results. Definately look up an alternator upgrade before you install any huge type of stereo.
November 2, 200916 yr If you are in Marysville, WA - Look up One Eye here, he might be able to hook you up with some parts etc. I'm a big fan of "murdered out" rigs. Heres my some what MO'd RX... My 95 Imp, My old 92 SVX, And heres a few that are awesome examples. I could keep this up for a while :-p Edited November 2, 200916 yr by Turbone
November 2, 200916 yr If you can't tell, he likes black cars And as for MO'ing your car, well, you can mod honda stuff to fit (idk what) but it'll make your car ride like it has the body welded straight to the axles if you do it wrong. You can put shocks from a car that is lighter than yours on there ie, sedan shocks or if you can make them fit, hatchback shocks as they will lower it, but will increase sag as they weren't designed to handle such a heavy car. November 2, 200916 yr Author thanks for the input guys, its all appreciated. going to hit up the search now.
November 2, 200916 yr this is just sick! I got into this back when we just called it "black out" but yeah ... the old soobies look hot blacked out... there's a wagon on here that's be lined on bottom and camo on top but the bedliner is really sexy... I may find that and post it up for ya.
November 2, 200916 yr Yeah, thats a nice wagon. I plan on doing this to one of my rigs, + http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1856595

November 3, 200916 yr can i just get a clarification, that that is called satin black? i usually hear it just called "flat black"
November 3, 200916 yr there's actually like 5 or 6 stages of Black Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Satin, Semi-flat, Flat, Ultra-flat In that order -Bill
November 3, 200916 yr And in the NW going with anything flatter than satin will grey out on ya after a few bad weather trips. And washing does nothing. I flatted out my GL when I first bought it and these days it looks more like primer grey than black. Even the powerwasher does not bring it back. The flat black soaks up road grime/mud like a sponge. Those all black Imps look awesome. I remember way back when I blacked out the alloys on my Golf all the other "tuner guys" were disgusted by them and thought I was crazy. I just hate shiny things. Nowadays it's all the rage and you don't have to black 'em out yourself, you can hit up the local tire store and buy black wheels. Sure would have made my life easier back then. hehe
November 4, 200916 yr you should just lift it and wheel it like the rest of us Not all of the rest of us.
November 4, 200916 yr Not all of the rest of us. +1 You might want to look into doing a 5 lug swap. That'll make it possible to get Impreza struts with coil overs up front. For the rear, Numbchux did some good testing with Miata parts.
