Annoying coolant leak

Featured Replies

I have a coolant leak on top of the motor. 92 Loyale, non-turbo. coolant pools on top behind where the EA82 is stamped. I can locate where it's coming from, but it gets worse with more rpm, the leak starts in the middle and moves towards the #1 plug, so it doesn't look like it's the thermostat. I see a small hose from the thermo housing to the intake, but it doesn't appear to be it. I hope I have to start just pulling and inspecting things. It's driving me nuts, I'd like to go home for thanksgiving, but with this problem I'll have to wait and see. Thanks for anyone's help.

well i got the leak on top fixed, but there's some other leak onto the exhaust that steams up. any thoughts?

Check your hoses. That would be the first thing I'd do. Hoses that are 18 years old don't exactly hold up too well.. then check the couplings. make sure they aren't leaking from where they meet the engine or radiator.

Yep - when I get a used rig with unknown history, I march right down to the dealer and ask them to order EVERY cooling system hose for me.

Check the small hose behind the throttle body.

another from the thermostat housing to the block.

Small one from water pump to steel line that goes to one of the heater hoses.

A failing intake manifold gasket can put coolant on top of the engine also.
