I just got my HID kit installed, on my 2000 RS and am very happy. I have an issue where I only have a high beam on one side. Switched bulbs it stayed on that side so it ruled those out. I hear my relay clicking in the fuse box when switching them on and off. I contacted the company I ordered them from and they said I would contact me monday to help troubleshoot.

It's been awhile, but when I put HIDs on a truck of mine I used Bi-Xeons.

 

The high/low was accomplished by tilting the bulb to change the amount of light exposed to the gap in the glare shield (the metal thing around the bulb). I think it was just a magnetic operation used to tilt it. Check the contacts and listen for the click at the bulb socket when engaging the highs.

I have that sound on the passenger side you are referring to just not on the drivers side. I thought it was the relay at first but realized that it was too loud to be the relay. Swapping the bulbs confirmed that it was not a bulb problem. These were a Christmas gift from my dad and wife and have already contacted the people in the link. They're suppose to call me on Monday and probably feed me some jazz that I will have to take them off and ship them back to them, wait 2 weeks and get the replacements back. The parts do work, just at 95% of what it should.

Yea, that click noise should be in each socket. It sounds like one of the Bi-Xeon mechanisms isn't working. I doubt this is something you can fix as it is in the actual socket unit.

 

 

 

You should also have new shields for the HIDs that have the cutout.

 

If your sending them back anyway you might want to make sure you get the temperature (color) you want, the whiter (lower temp, aka less blue) the more light output.

Yeah, I've read the debates on them across the forums and heard all the HID bashing from lots of people.

Spent the good part of my morning on the phone with the vendor. They agreed to send me a 6000k replacement kit and I just have to send back my 8000k with an RMA.

Let us know your impression when installed please ---not only the difference n light output from stock but install issues as well (altho you can tell me about thaqt part now). I may go for the 6000's

The one down side is their price baiting,,,,$80 looked great! until you get to the fine fineprint that says "oh, if you have combined hi/lo beams...its not 80 its 150......like, who doesn't?

Well the installation was not really that bad. Most of the time is spent finding a mounting location for the ballasts. I recommend using some industrial strength velcro on a clean surface. My kit came with the dedicated wiring harness that you mount to the battery so there is no load on the cars wiring harness for these. There is an H4 plug on the harness that plugs into the driver's side original headlight plug. I currently have the 8000k bulbs high and low in it right now and really like the look, just have a hint of teal to them. Most of the pics I seen of the 8000k on the net show them to be crazy blue, these are not. I should be getting the 6000k next week and will be sending the 8000k back. Honestly its not that much brighter paying for the bright kit, it just angles the bulb up higher.

Thanks. Its not really that bad of an installation. Just set aside a few hours to have it completed. Like most of the mods I do, I try and do as much research as possible. Hopefully my dad will not notice the difference in the light, wife is about tired of hearing me talk about them.

DO NOT BUY FROM http://www.hidxenonheadlights.com/ Here are the replacement parts I got sent in the mail, to the wrong address. The website shows a pretty enclosure, this is what you will get. I am sending both kits back and going with someone else, this is downright crap. This is my $160 screw over.

That is plain crazy how they show the picture of a neatly packed box, and then you get something in the mail that not properly packed and looks like it came from a low-grade Chinese company.

It will be legal after this evening. I got to go pull my old ones off my car that is in the shop getting the head gaskets and water pump replaced. I am shipping both the kits back to them and putting the old ones in, I will get a new kit from someone locally eventually. I am not worried about them being road legal as the police here are very uninformed.

Try subimods.com They sell a nice kit that a lot of people I know have used and loved. And it's a reasonable price too!!

Got it ready to go back tomorrow morning, both kits are packed up. I wonder what kind of crap they will give me when they are delivered.

If they had those drop shipped, they probably went through Chinese customs.

They rip everything open and inspect it with a magnifying glass. If they find a mark or etch that they don't like, they deny it. You really think Customs is going to put them back in the original container?

Of course that's hypothetical, but there are plenty of retailers who do business that way so they don't have to store large amounts of inventory.

I am just shipping them back to the company from which they came. I am not exporting the package so it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, so to clear up a bit...Federal DOT regulations make NO mention of headlight types. Some states may have different regulations, so check first. However, most states have regulations for lighting that limit your choices based, not on light output, but on current draw. For instance, Washington limits your headlights to not more than 55w current draw. HID kits mostly draw around 35-40 amps. Just doing a quick search, I can't find a single state that specifically prohibits the use of HID headlights.

 

For those who may be interested, the shop I work for has HID kits for $145 (most applications). If you want the bixenon kit (for HID high and low beams on cars that use a single bulb), it usually adds about another $50.

Here in Tennessee we got enough problems with prescription drug abuse for the police to care about what headlights Kyle has in his Subaru. To prove a point. Back in the summer when I was getting my windows tinted I called over to the police department (work IT for the City) and inquired about the legal tint law. They were under the impression that as long as the front two windows were 35%. Upon further web searching I discovered that its 35% all around. Also, who are they to tell me my headlights aren't OEM? 04-05 STi has HIDs in a non-projector housing, along with the idiots in the Prius.
