towing / transaxle question

Featured Replies

I understand I can "flat" tow (all four wheels on the ground using a tow bar) a 4 wheel drive, manual transaxle EA81 (Brat) in neutral. If I put the front wheels on a dolly, and leave the rear wheels on the ground, will I damage the transaxle? Will the transaxle still get lubricated with the back wheels and driveshaft turning but not the front differential? Or do I have to pull the driveshaft?

Yep - flat or two up - doesn't matter in the least. Leave it in 2WD just because less stuff is turning but you can't hurt it anyway.

What about on a AT? I though since the fluid isn't being moved the AT trans would burn up? I am speaking for a part-time 4WD and an AWD trans.

You should unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff and tie it off to the side, like to the exhaust pipe.

You don't want to remove the DS from the trans, as you'd dump fluid.

This is to tow-dolly one.
