October 9, 201015 yr Test drove an 04, H6, 35dth Anniv edition outback today, all seemed fine, but i'm just wondering where the temp gauge should read/be?? It went up the the mid point in the gauge (horizontal) and stayed there, no matter whether air was on or not. Temp today here in PA is 75 degrees. I haven't owned a subee since my 95 and i honestly can't remember where the temp gauge finally ended up. Thanks
October 9, 201015 yr Both my 01 that I just sold and the 04 that I just picked up run right at the mid point of the gauge.
October 9, 201015 yr Its a dummy gauge. It goes to the middle and stays there unless you are seriously overheating the engine.
October 9, 201015 yr sounds totally normal. what were you expecting? other than my XT6's which read at about 1/3 - all the other subaru's i've owned do that - legacy's, impreza's, foresters, OBW, 4 clinder, 6 cylinder...etc.
October 11, 201015 yr My '03 goes up to just below half. Did see it go a little higher once when it was hot and I was pulling a trailer up a steep hill doing 80+ Dave
October 11, 201015 yr All the cars (96 Sub, 90 Nissan, 04&09 Toyota) I've owned behave the same way: needle is just a tad below half way when the engine is warmed up.
October 11, 201015 yr They are designed to read exactly half under a wide range of temps - so that the driver isn't uneccesarily concerned as the gauge fluctuates. Unless it's seriously overheating it will not move. GD
