February 6, 201115 yr I have a 97 legacy gt and i want to get a middle of the road header price wise. Due to the stock being rather beat. Anyways i am lookin at a obx header and it says its for 98 impreza rs with a 2.5 my legacy has a 2.5. Now will this fit my legacy? I dont see why it wouldnt but i like i said im kinda new to subarus any ideas thanks
February 7, 201115 yr Yes - the header sections are the same. You can use any dual-port header for '95 to '99. The OBX borla knock off's are good replacement headers for a good price - don't expect any performance change but it will change the exhaust note slightly due to the (more) unequal length tubes. It will sound more "aggressive" but the performance will be unaffected or slightly worse due to the seriously unequal nature of the pipes. GD
February 7, 201115 yr Author sweet thanks yea im not looking for much performance its a daily driver the oem exhaust is starting to get holes rusted in it. Would you know if you just use the obx resonator and a muffler at the end would that be enough back pressure to keep the check engine light off?
February 7, 201115 yr Don't be surprised if you get a check engine light after the header install. The o2 sensors tend to not like them too much. I believe the p0420 is a common one. I have saw some of the RS guys wrap the headers to cure that program.
February 7, 201115 yr I've got obx headers on my 2.5RS, and while I like them, keep in mind that they'll make your car louder by virtue of their thinner walled steel, as compared to the stock headers. Wrapping helps mitigate this. Also, expect a p0420, since they don't come with a cat.
February 7, 201115 yr The headers should bolt right up to the stock cat. Even the stock headers don't contain a cat.
February 8, 201115 yr Author Sweets thanks for the helpful information! is there anyway to clear that code so it doesnt keep the check engine light on or not so much?
February 8, 201115 yr Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong header design. If it's the equal length header, though, those do NOT contain a cat. Maybe a borla style unequal length header would bolt up to the existing cat.
February 8, 201115 yr Sweets thanks for the helpful information! is there anyway to clear that code so it doesnt keep the check engine light on or not so much? Some do the o2 sensor ran into an anti plug fouler that is put into the exhaust to maybe eliminate the code. The results on that working is sporadic from what I have saw over the years.
