Anyone else having a hard time getting tires for their old Roo??? I'm looking for rubber for Murphy, the 87 Turbo Wag, and not having much in the way of success.

I never thought I'd buy tires at Sears.

 

A few years ago they had the correct tires at a decent price for my old '62 VW Single Cab Pickup truck.

 

Had them mounted, didn't like the rim paint job, had them dismounted so they've been under the truck for 2 years or so. Most of my antiques don't get many miles.

 

But I was shocked that Sears had the correct size, now in a radial, at a good price. I just checked there by accident really.

 

I still haven't actually driven on them though.

They actually get good ratings.

Sears has been my go-to tire place for several years. The Sears in this area, and even the ones some 100 miles away, don't carry this size at all. I did find some at Discount tires.

Not sure if you have pep boys in your area but they had tires for my 85 wagon in stock at a reasonable price. I've only put a few thousand miles on them but they seem to be just fine

It really depends on the type of tire you are looking for.

 

Im running Mastercraft A/S IV treads for the summer. Believe it or not, but they are the most aggressive tires I could find in stock size.

 

 

For winter Im running a studded set of Hankook Zovacs

 

I had cooper cobras on mine, but looks like I can't get them anymore (or at least from the place I got them from last time in my size ) I now have really cheap Sumitomo's and the are doing surprisingly well. They balanced great, handle well, and they are cheep! I don't know about wear yet, as I only have driven them about 2k before I parked the car for the winter.

 

I've always gotten my 13" tires at Sears. Never had a problem with them not being in stock. I buy & replace as matched sets of 4. Since my car is a daily driver I typically run Michelin All-Weathers. In a good sale you can get $85-$90 tires for about $50 each.

 

I also spent the $25.00 extra or whatever it was to get the replacement insurance on all 4 tires. Definitely worth it. And the bonus in getting tires at Sears + the insurance is that there are Sears stores everywhere to get you fixed up.

Sorry, I meant Guardsman, not Michelin. I used to buy Michelins called "Weatherwise II" but they don't seem to carry any under that name anymore. Maybe Guardsman is now the Sears branded name for tires made by Michelin. Anyway, great tires for the money if you're doing regular driving.

I've bought those for like, $49.00 a tire. They are some great tires.

Keep in mind, because Murph is a GL-10 turbo, my tiers are P18570/13 and are a little bigger than the standard that comes with the normally aspired GL's.

Thats what mine came with from the factory.

There are still plenty of tires available in the 185/70

I can get a set of 13's for around $200-$220 installed, and I'm in the middle of nowhere Arizona.
