Loyale front end clunking?

Featured Replies

ok so here is my situation. my loyale has 193,000 miles on the car. it recently got an engine swap and a full treatment along the drivetrain, fluids, rear diff, etc. so i have the original suspension on the car shocks, struts, springs, ball joints, etc.

so here is what happens. almost every time i go over a speed bump at costco or anywhere i get a lound clunking noise from my front end. its like a "clook Klack" noise. It mainly happens on speed bumps but i have heard it radomly while driving or doing some offroading. i am assuming that its probley just the ball joints that might be bad. but before i replace them i wanna see if anybody else has had this problem. I plan on replacing the stock springs with king springs  and upgrading to kyb gr2's in the rear and monore shocks and struts in the front.

its a 92 loyale 4wd wagon if that helps anybody.

check where your steering knuckle bolts to the strut, those bolts like too loosen up if you dont loctite them and crank em really good. balljoints probably a good idea too though.

sounds like ball joints to me. be careful not to break off the pinch bolt. youmay have th spread the tabs to get it apart

sounds like a very predictable noise with not much variation to it?

my guess is strut related - mounts, strut, spring.

when parked does it make any noises when you turn the wheel to full lock back and forth?

are the ball joint boots ripped?

can you hear what side it's coming from?

Check the stabiliser bar's mounts and the rubber inserts where they connect to the control arm. If these are all good I'd be considering new drive shafts - mine used to clunk all the time particularly when at full lock left or right, only one klunk heard each time you were moving at full lock.

New drive shafts got rid of this noise for me - or you can just put up with it.

Cheers

Bennie

...or that issue could be Related to the Engine Swap?

'cos if the Subie now got a 2.5L engine (EJ25 I Guess by the User name) Maybe the Engine Crossmember is Loose...

Just an Option...

Kind Regards.
