Does anybody know where I might be able to find some rear springs for roxanne (ea82 4x4 wagon) that are stiffer and/or taller than stock? Either from other soobs, other makes that are common in junkyards, or even companies that sell new custom springs?

 

I am tired of the rear end sagging with any sort of load in the back. I've already cranked up the preload to the second setting, which is an improvement. However, I think even with increasing the preload all the way, the stock springs are just inadequate for my purposes. I would like to keep the stock front-to-rear angle relatively intact, so springs that are just taller aren't really what I'm looking for. I'm more looking for springs of close to the same height that are substantially stiffer.

 

Any ideas?

Where do you crank up the preload on a ea82? I'v never heard of that? When I pick up 15 bags of 40 lb fire pellets I'm riding on the stops.

some of the wagons rear shocks have a 3 postinion adjustable perch

The ea82s only had adjustable preload for a couple years very early on. I can't remember if it was 85-86 or 86-87. On these, the bottom of the spring rests on a collar that can rotate. As it rotates, it switches between three ramped settings, each one altering the ride height by about an inch and a half.

kelly your car does have the adjustable shocks. I tried to crank mine up on my 86 but they were pretty rusty and it felt like I was gonna snap something so I stopped.

 

I started a post called EA82 Struts/Springs and we figured out what would be needed for tallest/stiffest and lowest/softest

I saw the post about soob springs, and according to that chart the stiffest ones are in the wagons already, unless I missed something.

 

Somebody mentioned something a while back about using the front springs from an older honda in place of our rear springs. Anybody know anything about this?

get a set of cheap coilovers off ebay and just use them in the rear.....sell the front pair...look for some good 450lb ones!

someone mentioned S-10 and S-15 rear coilovers would fit with a slight modification. They are like an inch longer I beilieve.. It would work cuz the rearend has that extra inch to give anyways.

 

Check with Carquest for the coilovers. I got 2 for like 40 bucks or something.. They worked great on the the pickup.

The front springs from an 86-89 Honda Accord are the ones. They will end up raising the back a couple inches though, which is not what you said you wanted. However, they most likely would take care of your sagging problem as they are designed to support a heavy engine and trans.

yeah no more saging. carrys a load much better too. not to mention a little lift.

I was planning on doing the mod too, i'm waiting on a set of springs to make it here from seattle, no rush are spring clamps absolutly necessary or can they be seated and the top attached while in the car, and have the weight of the car push the springs down?

I would definately use a spring compressor. they are a bit dangerous when they get loose. did that on a big fat BMW525 spring. be carefull.

What about dual shocks?

 

A secondary pair of coil overs may work?

 

I'm using adjustable Bug Pack coil overs on the buggy.

 

Dual shocks would be killer!

duals would work too. but I think I spent 35$$ plus the new KYBs and it works great. dual shocks would add a bit of weight and well more parts to deal with. you are building a buggy though and its probably appropriate there.

yes it was a hard thing for me to do. I never told the car where they came from;) if it found out I would be in big trouble. probably would throw a fit and die on a nice narrow road, behind a blind corner.

 

look at it this way. they use pig valves in human hearts right. well this is the car version of that.

I think it's about the same blasphemy as putting Peugeot wheels on a Soob. Was it meant to be? No. Will I do it? Well... I've already done the Pugs, and now I rub tire when carrying heavy loads... so there's the answer.
