October 14, 201114 yr 36 peaks, 36 valleys. 360*. Peaks 10*, valleys 5* each. Basically, insert one of these in the hole where the dowel pin holds the sprocket. Chose 2*, 4*, 6*, or 8*, advance or retard. I've modified two and messed them both up. 7/32" chain saw file to slightly elongate the three bolt holes. I used other means and it didn't work out. Doug
October 18, 201114 yr Author My first set of Adjustable Cam Sprockets. Bushings for small and big block Chevy, BB Chrysler. Sprocket #3 with 8* bushing. Sprocket #4 will be drilled a little differently. Tightening up clearances. I need to check this all out further with a degree wheel. I'm drilling two cams and installing 6mm 1.0 threads for stud and nut where the factory roll pin lived. I can't use that at all. Possibly a longer pin with a different set of bushings. On set #2 I'm installing studs. Edited October 18, 201114 yr by Quidam
October 18, 201114 yr Its for adjusting the cam timing, which can dramaticly change how a motor runs including moving the power band and complementing a boosted intake charge....I have no idea what it would do to a EA82, but I'm curious to know what this would do to my Weberized EA82.....hmmm.. I'm very interested to see where this goes, please give us a status report when you get them installed!
October 19, 201114 yr Author The set going on the motor to check it all out. Piston to valve, quench, valve timing... with a degree wheel. You can see the bolt hole slots only need to accomodate 8* advance or retard. These studs have a shoulder that fits pretty good to the bushing, but it's not a friction fit to it or bushing to sprocket. It could be. This is the 0* bushing that will go on the motor first. Shown with a stock size roll pin. I can make adjustments and go for friction fit on the next set. Doug I ordered this and some low tension Comp Cams checking springs. They were quite a bit cheaper than the JEGS house brand. Those guys are right up the road and are now building and leasing Pro Stock motors. $50,000 per weekend if you wanna rent one. They install it and remove it when it's over. Yeow Edited October 19, 201114 yr by Quidam
October 19, 201114 yr Author and the advantages of Using those is... ? I'm not Completely Sure... To find any power that can be had. I've read reports of 40 hp gain on a high powered Subie. I've witnessed the gain on a SBC. I use them to gain cranking compression sometimes... Doug
November 11, 201114 yr Do you really need the bushings? I had adj cam gears on my old zx2 and the bolts held it in place just fine. Really all it needs is the slotted holes, right? (and the index marks of course.) :edit: after reading your other thread I got my answer. Edited November 11, 201114 yr by zukiru
November 11, 201114 yr ooh great idea! you guys know where to get a high rev cam? subscribed. Delta Cams
November 11, 201114 yr Delta Cams delta cams has a "stage one grind" for about 73.5 per cam, with a $20 core for each. or a "stage two" grind for about 82.50 a piece. i just talked to them yesterday and shop turn around time right now is about a week! delta cams (tacoma, washington) 1800-562-5500

November 11, 201114 yr Author Yea, Delta is the ONLY source for regrind/aftermarket cams for these cars that I know of. However, keep in mind that the MPFI XT cams are 256* duration, compared to 244* duration for the SPFI cams. I'd take an educated guess that they can grind more duration into the XT cams tho. Same lift on both as far as I know. About .396. Doug
November 16, 201114 yr To find any power that can be had. I've read reports of 40 hp gain on a high powered Subie. I've witnessed the gain on a SBC. November 16, 201114 yr Could I Kindly ask if you already installed those on the engine, and how is the whole setup Working? Kind Regards. you won't notice much from this without an upgraded cam. not on a little 4-banger. it can make intakes and exhaust upgrades a bit more efficient if you put the time in to tune it. November 17, 201114 yr Could I Kindly ask if you already installed those on the engine, and how is the whole setup Working? Kind Regards. X2 I'm curious to know how it turned out too! you won't notice much from this without an upgraded cam. not on a little 4-banger.it can make intakes and exhaust upgrades a bit more efficient if you put the time in to tune it. If you have done this and it doesn't work, please share... I've seen this done to a couple stock motors( even a few 4cyl.'s) with stock cams and all had new attitude and power.
November 17, 201114 yr I have done it to other motors and the gains were small if any I have seen 5 HP gained on a dyno from just cam gears. this was a Zetec Focus engine. (not mine, car had a full range of bolt ons and igniton mods) I had gears on my Escort zx2. but I never got to mess with them much. the Escort 4 door I had, had a SOHC and I may have gotten the powerband moved to a better place for the 4 speed auto. but it still wasn't anything to write home about. (both cars had intake/exhast/homebrew ECU tuning) don't get me wrong. I am going to do this myself. but I don't expect much. :edit: some times cams on one car are more "on" than in other cars. some cars may already have the lobes so perfectly in the sweet spot that this mod could hurt performance...
