December 1, 201114 yr I'm trying to find up pipe to manifold gaskets for my 1996 Legacy Outback 2.2l 5spd. I ordered them from a local NAPA store and they came back with gaskets with three bolt holes and two holes for the exhaust. The ones I need have one hole for the exhaust and two bolt holes. It looks like the muffler and cat gaskets only elongated. I looked in their part catalag (2 of them actually) and it does show the three bolt gasket. Does anyone know the correct Subaru part number or perhaps what to ask for at the parts store to get the correct part. Thanks for any assistance.
December 1, 201114 yr Probably because you have a swapped engine. The parts people are looking it up by the car, 96 Legacy OB, which came with a 2.5 which has the dual ports. Tell him you have a regular Legacy with the 2.2 and you'll get the right gasket. Keep this in mind for future parts. BTW it's just an exhaust manifold gasket. NA cars do not have an up pipe. O.
December 1, 201114 yr That's not a swapped engine - it's stock. But you need to get manifold gaskets from the dealer or (if you want crap) order them at a parts store for a basic Legacy not an outback so you get the 2.2 single port gaskets. GD
December 1, 201114 yr 96 Outback manual had the 2.2 stock. I have the same problem trying to get manifold gaskets. Order them for a regular legacy with the 2.2 in the 96 - 99 MY range. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Exhaust-Manifold-Gasket-Beck-Arnley_25983644-P_97_R%7CGRPEXHAAMS_____ Edited December 1, 201114 yr by Fairtax4me
December 1, 201114 yr this: Order them for a regular legacy with the 2.2 in the 96 - 99 MY range. the originals are often robust and easily reused, i've done it countless times.
December 2, 201114 yr Author The 2.2l is indeed stock as has already been mentioned. I thought it might have been a mistake in their book and looked at the gaskets for the regular legacy 2.2l cars. The part numbers are the same for both. A year ago I would have spent the extra money on the dealer part off the bat but this thing has become such a rust bucket over the last winter that I'm thinking this one will do it in. Does anyone know the part number for the gaskets or make a recommendation on a dealer who will be able to get them for me? After what the local dealer tried to charge me for parts last time I went there I'm not going back. As for re-using them, they're completely toast. Thanks for the help and responses. December 2, 201114 yr As stated it's a stock motor. The 96 Legacy Outback 5 spds were 2.2. When I needed these I ended up having to order them from the dealer.
