Quick speedo question

Featured Replies

(Gen 1 wagon)

When your speedo needle starts to suddenly "jump" and "hop", is that usually the cable, the speedo, or the transmission gear?

Thanks!

Todd

I've seen posts about the seal on the tranny side of the cable going bad and the cable "sucking" tranny fluid up into the speedo..... might want to have a look anyway. On the other hand the one in my brat does that a tiny bit at low speed, but stops after 25 MPH or so.... hasn't been a problem yet.

But mine doesn't jump about, it runs all the way up to 115 at 55 or so. Intermittant, does it most often when cold ... or very warm.

Go figger.

If you've checked it out, what did you find? Sounds like it's doing the same as my 86 5 sp d/r wagon. Speedo is buried at highway speeds but strangely enough, the odometer is registering mileage correctly. Haven't noticed oil at the connection of the cable to the speedo head.

Curious to see what you found on yours...

I found that the cable had partially pulled of the back of the speedo! I pushed it back and and it's fixed!

(I love the easy ones!)

mine doesn't work at all...

and when mine did it also wobbled...

i took out the cable and the tip was covered in tranny fluid or grease or something... that normal???

i tried to take the cable out of the guage cluster but i couldn't... got any ideas???

just a side not but when i bought my brat the inside had this foam padding stuff everywhere and it crumbles and brakes off and it gets all over... is it suposed to be there??? or can i just rip the stuff off without worry???
