1979 Wagon - 56K miles

Featured Replies

I have a subaru wagon, 56K miles. Bought it from original owner grand son in law. Body is i perfect shape. Spark plug shot out of the head...any thoughts?

You don't need a new head, or even removing the one that's in there. You can get a kit to re thread the spark plug hole and add an insert, then thread the plug back in. I had to do this on an old car I had, worked great.

Yep a Helicoil kit of the right size will work just fine. Had to do it to my moms Forester at 250k.

wouldn't rethreading it make really small pieces of metal go through the engine?

Heli-Coil has saved my life more than once!

Make sure once you installed the Heli-Coil insert, that you use a needle-nose and break off the tap before hand before threading the spark plug in (Don't want that little tap sitting on top of the piston)

I want to see some pics of this wagon, damn.

axle grease in the tap. catch the shavings.

^And this

not if you know how to do it right.
