April 14, 201312 yr Hello all at USMB my name is ben, i own a 95 impreza coupe which am doing a wrx swap on but just this month i was lucky enough to get an 1983 BRAT from the Original Owner! only 135k on her been sitting since 2002 since the owners husband died!T it has back fee's ,car was not running and missing tail lights, after some gas and a lot of patience she started! bogged down bad but changed the cap and rotor and plugs and wires now she goes through the RPM's like it should! i am sadly missing tail lights but the overall condition of the BRAT is amazing! Interior was redone in 2001 and held up amazingly well! Needs Brakes, tail lights and a new dash would be nice! A carb cleaning and rebuild will happen within the next weeks.Plans for the moment are get tail lights, replace vaccum and fuel lines, smog ,and maybe a paint job in the future and will look into upgrading to a weber but in the mean time i will take care of the minor rust it does have heres some pictures Edited April 24, 201411 yr by scrapperking
April 14, 201312 yr Nice rescue... Like the look of the seat reupholstering, looks to be more comfortable than the stock ones are. Being in Ca., you won't be able to do a Weber swap and get it to pass emissions testing. You can however, do a SPFI swap, and get it to pass. Been a few Ca. members do so.
April 15, 201312 yr Author thanks everyone for the kind words and i have a way "around" smog but at the moment the Weber swap is only a dream! i just found a set of rebuilt ea81 heads which i will be picking up as well as a spare set of wheels so i can Powder Coat the rusted ones that are on the BRAT! I recently put a Subaru GL Chrome Gas Door which IMO looks 2x better than the stock did , shift knob was worn out so i swapped it out for an Audi 90 5 speed shift knob which is a somewhat weighted and just feels amazing! i was saving it for another VW/Audi but it goes good on the BRAT Edited April 15, 201312 yr by scrapperking
April 15, 201312 yr Don't get rid of the stock BRAT gas door. They are getting harder to come by! Looks like a sweet project!

September 26, 201312 yr Author *update* i have not put an update on here in a while but many changes are coming i had wanted a Weber 32/36 for some time now and i got one! i plan to put it on within the next month just need to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and various hoses! for $320 shipped am excited with the Weber and am dying to get it on the ea81 when i got my BRAT it had the front bumper off and in the bed, so i stopped being lazy and did a test fit looking pretty good right there but i prefer it with a Brush Guard! so i had also been somewhat thinking/looking into getting a Brush Guard and i got one off a 1983 GL Wagon at the junkyard for $30 heres a pic of it resting on my BRAT,going to mount it soon debating on painting or letting it Rust completely a few months back i also got these wheels and a complete set of hubcaps off a GL wagon
