so i tore apart my stock 3.9 diff this morning and removed the insides . i had to take one of the ring gear bolts off to be able to take out the gears of the housing. i used a 1/4 inch 8mm deep socket to take off the axle stubs but when i got to the LSD diff the axle stubs would not come off. so noe im trying to fing the correct tool which is a external torx socket . only problem with finding that is i need a deep one. none of the sockets i have found have been able to fit inside to actually reach the bolt. any suggestions on where to find the right tool?? also stopped by lithia subaru and picked up my seals o rings and gasket for my diff. still waiting to find a cheep legacy to buy for the swap also

Had you discovered the cause of why the 1.8 loyal was blowing head gaskets? I'm working with a 1.8 turbo mpfi and haven't before. Just wondering if there are some things to look out for.

i assume i blew the head gaskets multipule times because i have huge tires on the car and i would drive it very hard hah. but yeah the picuters where my grill is gone is because i was painting it black and just left it off untill i installed the KC spot lights. also i was pulling the engine that night installing that bumper i made and the piaa fogs so i just left the grill off a week or so. to make sure panit cured fully

so i got my lsd swap done and installed it in my car. now i just need to find the axle pins i took out of the right rear axle... sucks working on a gravle driveway on a hill ......Thought i would also take a picture of the reinforced mustach bar i made. i took two and cut the ends off one welded them together. drilled some holes in the center all the way down it and welded those parts together also. actually managed to get the piece of metal that wraps over the bolts and top of the diff back on . painted and installed

oh and it might have gotten a bit hot before i blew it. keep th ea 82's cool and they last long time hah

Old radiators and corroded water pumps plus lack of regular coolant changes cause these engines to run hot. Take care of your cooling system and your ea82 will take care of you.

What size lift? What size tyres? Did you covert/drill the hubs or running 14" pugs? Did you biy or build the front bumper?

custom home made 2 inch lift. i spaced my engine x member and my tranny x member and the radius rod bracket down 1.5 inches so my axles are only a half inch off stock angle on it right now are 195 75 r14 but in the winter i run 27 x 8.5 r14 general grabbers . i have two full sets of pugs so thats what i havee been running but i just picked up a set of toyota 6 lug rims and going to be drilling them out and filling in extra holes and re painting. and i built the front bumper and got all the lights off craigslist for under 200 bucks. all were new in box

  • Author

took my wiring harness into SSI today so it can be trimmed down. i also picked up an EJ adapter plate and brought my flywheel in to get drilled out. tomorrow i plan on clearing out my work space and start tearing down the EJ so i can reseal it.

I began to disassemble my engine today . when i got the intake
manifold off i noticed a lot of what looks like oil that leaked into the
intake ports and  on to the valves on all four intake ports. Does anybody know
if that will cause a problem ? was it just bad intake manifold gaskets? do i
just need to clean it up or can that cause a problem ?        here are some pictures of the engine
