Will ea81 wagon drums fit on a ea82 wagon

I have some six lug hubs and drums on wrecked 84 gl.

Will both the hubs and drums switch over to a 90 loyal?

Anybody? I'll probably just try it out tomorrow if I have time.

From what I've read and heard you cannot interchange the hubs they either stick to far out or not enough, can't quite remember

Except a Brat has the same running gear as an EA81 wagon, so of course it fits.

Stuff got changed when Subaru changes bodyshells.

 

I've heard of the brakes being interchangable between the models. Well at least fitting the bigger EA82 stuff onto an EA81.

no i had an ea82 wagon that had discs and drums that were redrilled to 6 lugs and then i swapped them onto my 85 brat,

 

Basically just make sure that everything is super tight with absolutely no play of any-kind(obviously)

I said the later model EA82 stuff will definitely fit onto the EA81 stuff. Which is what you've just said did.

 

Not many people do the other way because it's a downgrade, but if kirzick wants to try it, then I'm sure he can let us know for sure :P

front hubs are interchangeable  the wheel mounting area is different  don't remember how

No they aren't......These are the ones with different depth.....it can be done......but the cotter pin won't go in the axle nut when done.

 

 

REAR hubs and drums are all the same in depth EA81 vs. EA82....that part is not an issue for rears....but ......see below.

No they aren't.....Same diameter.....EA82 shoes can be used in EA81 drums but not the other way around because of ea82 self adjuster.  (2wd EA82 no adjuster......exactly same as EA81)

No.........The EA81 drums will interfere with the Self-adjuster on the EA82 setup.....you may not even notice at first bolt up....but after driving take it off and the adjuster will show rubbing.....it depends where the adjuster is at in it's throw at full "out" it will catch the back of the studs....

 

EA82 drums will work no problem on an EA81 setup.......no self adjuster on ea81 it's all manual.....can use EA82 shoes on EA81 also.

 

Newer on Older = GOOD

Older on Newer = NO GOOD

Well i still havent tryed it. its been dumping rain and my stupid carport leaks all over. Its not fun to do brakes with a cold wet rump roast...

Thank you everyone for the info. Its not like the back brakes work anyway so im just gonna go for it. :P

Well there on! Maybe because the Ea81 drums are warn they fit. I did have to reset the auto adjuster. Not sure if they work haven't gotten to drive it yet. Cheers! 27s stuffed under there

who even said drum brakes work, or EA82s shoe adjusters !! B4 I went disc rear, my drums had been machined and shoes ground to match, adjustment checked at 10,000km oil change intervals. 10 oil changes later came the disc conversion to note very minimal shoe wear at all - sort of indicating they had done very little work over that time. No wonder the disc rear feels perfect :)

You don't want to hear it, but isn't China the destination for our squashed bodies ? Project Cheap Grief had to come to an end, as planned when it was bought from a wrecker in 2006, complete with cooked engine, leaky 3 speed 4WD auto, dinged door, no bonnet, no lights and squahed up floor from being carted about by fork lift. The good bits are eventually going into an '89 Brumby. Wet petrol sytem is coming out - barnacle tank, Hitachi carb, tank venting lines'n'stuff >> dedicated dry gaseous propane/butane fuel system in - initially on the EA81 about to score twin Hitachis to snort LPG through :), disc brake rear just to keep on topic :) , once the sticky valve is sorted, maybe a few though skimmed .....

I measured the drums and they were the same depth in both spots i checked . So  we will see. I only had to reset one self adjuster, the other drum just slid on. Both hubs slide straight on and bolted up know problem.

OK google brought me here just now

 

am wondering if EA82 rear hubs 4WD are interchangeable with EA81 4WD rear hubs as in just the hub itself with that short splined axle complete with nice bearings ? Think I am confused reading stuff above. If someone has been found incorrect above, would not hurt for poster to alter or delete ?
