When did cars change to obdII? I did see the little door though so if I do buy it I'll scan it

all cars were required to be OBDII in '96 , but many were in 95. I think a Nissan was in 94?

Scan it before you buy it!  You'll get a lot of valuable information before you slap your money down.

Definitely what Olnick said - scan BEFORE you buy!

The thing is is that I personally don't have and obdII scanner so I'm out of luck with that. Tomorrow I'll report back on what we are gonna do

Borrow one!  Buy one!  Take the car to a parts store where they'll read codes for you!  It would be very unwise to buy a car with a CEL on and not know what it's for.

I don't have the means right now to borrow one and have no cash to buy one. I'm also going into an area where I don't know anything thier

if your State won't sticker the car with the light on/codes stored - it could cost you many hundreds to a thousand or more dollars to make the car legal.

 

 

if you're OK with that, why even test drive the car? just buy it.

Go to vatozone or whatever, they loan out scanners. 

 

It's cheaper to drive a little and scan it than to find out that something expensive is broken. 

 

Also, does it have an EJ25D? Any records on timing belt or head gaskets?

google maps can help you locate things in the area you are going to.

 

type in the name of the town - or better yet, the address of where the car is - then click on the "search nearby" and type in "auto parts store" or similar. It will locate all places that match on the map for you.

 

Autozone & Advance Auto I know will read codes for you for free, others may as well - a quick phone call will confirm.

In in fl and they will register anything here and it has an ej22

So I bought the car! It runs and drives well and has new tires and brakes and it made the 1 hour trip back with no problems and we where able to register, insure, and tag the car in the same day with no hassel

Yea, nice looking car. It has the same exterior paint as my 99 OBW, which I like.  Any more pixs coming??

Are you sure?  My '95 is OBD2 and I've never seen one that isn't.  But if by chance it is OBD1 you can still pull the codes with test connections under the dash.  BTW, It'll probably take more than fresh fluids to dump codes!  Good luck.

Ditto. Mine is a 95 Legacy L and it also has OBD 2. From my understanding, it wasn't required until 96 but some manufacturers got an early start and incorporated it in 95 models. I guess us lucky 95 Subaru owners got lucky.
