Tman1058 Posted June 20, 2014 Share Posted June 20, 2014 They have a 1st gear lockout, so that you don't over rev the engine by downshifting, the solution is to synchronize the rpms with your speed and it should pop right in no problem. el_freddo Posted June 22, 2014 Share Posted June 22, 2014 Any grinding when down shifting is usually due to worn synchros - this means the gearbox has been well used or the previous owner doesn't use the clutch properly. Rev matching is the best way to avoid this as a gearbox rebuild really isn't worth while unless you know what you're doing/own a gearbox specialist workshop...CheersBennie Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The number will be on the transmission side of the bell housing where the trans meets the engine. If it is a manual, it should be TM something.
