What is the difference between GL & DL

Featured Replies

I was just curious what the difference between GL and DL models is. Also do any models have the MPFI that are not turbo?

The brochure section of the board probably has your answer.

The difference is generally a trim package and the motor size.

Back in those days Subaru came in two forms.

GL generally meant all the options with the 1800 motor.

DL generally meant basic options with the 1600 motor.

Anyone else...

in sedans and wagons, non turbo, the GL's (EA-82) have single composite headlights and a black "c" pillar on the rear hatch and body color bumpers, the DL's have double headlights and a body color rear pillar, with black bumpers.

GL's have just about every option available, PS PW PL AC and the rest, where a DL has an am radio.

DL's have a single range and GL's have the dual range, when they have manual transmissions.

RX, XT and GL-10 fall into a different category, cause they add turbo and a bunch of other goodies like full time 4WD. but i believe that the DL variants of these have the MPFI without the turbo, or it could be that the GL non turbo's have the MPFI, but to answer your question, yes, you can get MPFI without the turbo.

There have been several reports of NA MPFI GL's that were not XT's. I have not seen one, but others on here have.

Some 82's had the quad headlight's - but only 2WD's as I recall. 83 was the year that the 4WD GL's got the quad setup.
