1990 Subaru Loyale Speedometer cable!

Featured Replies

Hello All,

So I went through the 139 posts on Speedometer Cables on the site.  Well I found a couple of really good ones.  What a pain in the backside.  I am not very agile these day and found it easier to remove the front seat.  I removed the covers under the steering wheel and dropped the computer down.  I could now feed the cable through and actually see the back of the cluster.  It was kinda high up there but with my mobility issues I could see it go into the hole.  I was pretty happy.

Have Fun Ya'all!

I would rather pull the instrument cluster to fit the cable then fit it to the Box, Much easier than crawling under a dash when you are no longer made of rubber as trhe years add up.

To do this job, need to be short of stature so you can fit down into the footwell, athletic like a gymnast to get yourself upside down & back out again, skinny to fit between the seat & the steering wheel, have arms like a monkey to reach up, and then the dexterity & finger feel of a surgeon to find where to push it into...

but a bit of practise helps :P

I have always pulled the cluster.

Yes, pulling the instrument cluster makes to service the Speedometer cable, way much easier. By the way, here's a pictorial guide regarding how to do that, without breaking the old plastics:

Kind Regards.

Toss the need of having to wear bifocals into the mix for even more fun....

the most difficult part is getting the cluster back in without the cable disconnecting (well for me)... sure looks like a disaster for someone that doesn't know about vehicles when you remove that instrument cluster.
