November 23, 201510 yr Looking to replace a 4eat out of my 01 outback LL Bean, it was poorly maintained and is failing in 2nd, with no 3rd or 4th right now. I know due to shift points (valve body) and the gearing that H6 4eats are specific to the H6. My questions is what all years will cross over, the tranny i found is an 02 and the yard told me it doesn't show that it is compatible. Any input would be great! Thanks,
November 23, 201510 yr Doesn't really need to be H6 specific, I *think*, as long as you use a legacy (not outback) trans. legacies use 4.11, outback 4cyls 4.44, H6's 4.11 01-03 all swap across each other (VDC for VDC, non-VDC for non-VDC) as far as I know, they did according to the interchange manuals when I swapped mine. November 24, 201510 yr an 02 will work. Dave - are you sure all legacy's are 4.11? in the 99's all Ej25 legacy's are 4.44.
November 24, 201510 yr Gen2 auto I should have specified, 2001-2004 (2000 also?). What's the name of that site with every subaru spec? I got that info from there...
November 24, 201510 yr you can also use opposedforces.com. Look under TRAIN in the transmission section....TD
November 25, 201510 yr engine Hp + final drive ratio + wheel size / tire size = power output / fuel economy. i know it is not that simple, but all 3 play a part. in the 00 - 04 years, legos, brighton, L and imprezas (low end) have smaller tires. they also have the 4.11 FD ratio. outbacks, foresters, GTs all have larger tires and the 4.44 ratio. (gt only slightly larger, but still larger.) the H6 does nor suffer from the same power output limitations as the outback & GT cars. it has tons of power. therefore, the final drive does not need to comply with the same power formula. ALL H6 auto trans in the 00 - 04 years have the 4.11 final drive ratio. it is also my understanding the the H6 auto trans has different gear ratios, 1- 4, than the lego 4eat. but i would have to research this to know for sure. hth.
