RX question

Featured Replies

ok we got a 3dr car at work, it is turbo spfi, was made 12 of 85, has rear disk brakes, front and rear swaybars, 5sp dual range tranny, & bucket like seats.

also it has a RX grill and front air dam, could it be one of the first RX's anyways im gonna buy it on monday since it is turbo and hauls arse, thats why i am selling the 86 wagon.

Thanks,

Shean

I think if the sixth digit in the vin or something like that is a 6 then it is an RX, but if its a 5 then its a fully loaded GL. It also wouldn't be SPFI, as far as I know all RX's are MPFI. Noting that, I don't think it is an RX.

Was this the blue on out front??? I didn't look close at it. Subaru didn't make a SPFI Turbo. If it has a plaque stating that it is 12 of 85, then it is a dealer special car. Sometime dealers created special cars to sell. I believe the Black Diamonds and the convertables are examples of these. Send me the VIN, I'll tell you if it is a RX or not.

ok well i did see 2 fuel injectors on each side of the engine, it is a silver 3dr with the buble back hatch, mint front airdam, grey interior.

I think when Scooby said 12 of 85, he was refering to the production date.

The car is a GL with the Rally Package, the pre-RX model, essentially the same thing, same options.

Should be an LSD there too.

yep it is a fully loaded GL, i just checked the general info page on here, 111hp 134tq, and man does that turbo pull hard.

this was the first turbo car i have ever driver, i was like, ok this is better then my car then the turbo spooled and i had to shift, all i could think was WHOLY CRAP THIS IS MUCH BETTER!!!

but ya it does have a LSD also.

so looks as if im needing some new heads since this blows white smoke, and the WRX turbo/intercooler that we have at work also along with 2.5inch exhaust from the turbo back with no cats.

i just cant wait till monday to go and give him the cash to buy it.

by the way, anyone got any good EA-82T heads, Gen 1 that they want to part with??

Later,

Shean

Scooby, if you saw injectors then it is NOT a SPFI engine, it is a MPFI engine. the SPFI is a throttle body injected engine, hence the single point injection. Boy that sure looked like a very light metalic blue, common color for an 86. This car could be like my brown 86, it didn't have the tail, but it had everything else, including the correct VIN. So, when are you going to get me the VIN???

im going to get the vin on monday when i buy the car, i will post the vin once i get home from work with the car.

i am dam bound and determined to get this car.

Just cause it blows smoke doesnt necessariliy mean the heads are screwed... COULD be a head gasket or intake gasket... maybe you will get lucky when you open it up and get it all inspected...

well what i figured i would do is take out the motor, and completely rebuild it from the ground up, clean every part, mic everything, new bearings and seals and such, then rebuild the turbo or put that WRX turbo and piping on.

or have 2.5inch downpipe and full exhaust made for my car.

anyways i will be driving it for a few days like it is, then start the rebuild on ether this motor or get another turbo MPFI longblock and rebuild that one while i drive the car around.
