Help, I can't Open My Hood

Featured Replies

Hi, my daughters 87 Soob, the cable holding that opens the hood came off. How can I get the hood open?

Hope you don't have A/c, lay on your back under the front, reach behind the bumper to where the latch is, and release the hood. Sometimes take a couple tries depending on how hard the latch is to activate.

depending on the grill, you might be able to get at it with needle nose pliers, thats how i had to open my hood when i was rebuilding my rx.

Thanks, got itopen. But how do I replace the cable?

Thanks,

Go to the junkyard and grab a cable off another car. Unbolt the grille, and the latch and remove the cable. You might have to unbolt a few other things to get it out. Once it's free of everything in the engine compartment, you can unbolt the bracket inside the car and pull the whole thing out from inside the car. Installing it, just do everything in reverse. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

A junkyard cable should be a good interim fix, but I suspect this is one time that it's better to buy a new one at the dealership.

I will try and go to Pull and Save this weekend, but it is a busy time, getting my scouts to Brounsea and losing my son as camp staff for the summer.
