What's everyone's favorite off road tire? Personal experience story's?

Im on my 3rd set of Super Swampers TSLs best in the mud and roots, for a all

around on and off road the Maxxis Bighorn MTs are my favorite , the

swampers wear faster and are softer, Id go with a new set of bighorn MTs 235/75-15

I'm a big fan of the BFG ATs. On my toyotas they've outlived other brands by about 2 to 1. They're a good both off/on road tire. General Grabbers have also performed well.

 

it's tough to go wrong when putting big tires on Subarus though. Since the subies are much lighter than the trucks/SUVs that they were intended for the tread life seems to last longer.

I second the bighorns, I had a set on my last Subaru and they did great!

The size that goes best with your power train.  A nice 27 inch tire.   You pick the tread.   Aiming for mud?  Rocks?  Snow?

both those tires are decent in loose dirt and even snow, but are GARBAGE in the mud.  Basically anything "AT" is gonna suck in the mud.

27x8.50x14 bias ply (or other size) Interco Swampers are probably the very best for maximum offroad ability, money not an issue.

I run what ever matching sets i find at the junk yard on 1/2 off day lol ive got 6 goodyear wranglers right now and i got all 6 for under $100

Get mud tires.  Mud is where you'll have the most traction problems, you want mud tires for mud.  I've tried Hankook and BFG mud tires in 215/75/15.  The Hankooks are actually about 1" wider and I think I prefer the way they handle, but I haven't had the BFGs long and really haven't tried them in soft mud yet.

BFG TA KO'2  they so bad that looks almost as Mud tires and perform really good all seasons. at least for those who have all seasons as i do . in snow they goes like tank with help of VDC traction control , in sand it just floats on sand as boat even without much deflating, on mud they goes as much as engine goes, they don't dig into mud let car go over it . i'm amazed really what these tires do. and then go to shoping , long trips on highways no problem. they not too loud for trips as well. and everybody look at them

for me off road is not just mud. its all kind of roads.

I currently have Maxxis Bighorns and I love them. But I think my next set will be some Super Swamper TSL’s.

they are out of production now, but if you can find a set still, I really like the Yokohama Geolander MT directional mud tires.

 

For snow tires I am run 31x10.50 Dean Wintercat on the big wheeler, and Nokian studded snows on my stock Forester.

Pretty sure schwab will too but I would try small local shops before them ever.
