Here is another use of the Ej251 with phase 1 Heads (Frankenmotor) in a 1991 Miata called the miataone.com.

Man, I bet that think is spunky when you hit the gas.

I've often daydreamed of taking a crunched impreza and making a cool AWD roadster out of an old Fiat, Opel, etc.

Is there a link to the build? I'm wondering how the torque tube was installed on a Subaru engine

Take a look at this website: www.miataone.com ,  has a real nice bracket the places the motor

in right place in the engine bay

I wonder how long the transmission will last being used as a rwd rather than awd. It looks like they just plug the openings for the front axles.

Silverhelme,

The Transmission is not just plugged. It's converted properly to a rear wheel drive only trans. The front differential is removed

and the center diff housing is then welded to transfer all torque to the Miata rear wheels. This the same method that is used to driffed

subaru's.

Very interesting, and I'm sure it'll be a fun car. Yea, those transfer gears typically don't hold up well to being the sole output, but the light weight and relatively low power levels here will help. Might want to start budgeting to upgrade those.

Custom driveshaft, I assume?

Seems like a pretty niche market. Someone with the time and skill to assemble an engine, and notch the crossmember and framerail, but wants some bolt-on brackets?

Probably a great candidate for a BRZ transmission, or Bill's bellhousing to a Toyota RWD transmission.
