January 8, 20188 yr hello and thanks for any info! ive been all over the net and all thru the chiltons manual for two days, cant find the location of the Transmission Contol Module ? my gl wont shift out of first gear , i have replaced the electronic kiick down sylenoid and the govenor / modulator on the transmission, my next step is the TCM, cant seem to find its location? cant find any good diagrams for this old ride either????thank you, rex
January 8, 20188 yr There is no electronic control of this transmission. It's all controlled by hydraulics.
January 8, 20188 yr Check the modulator vacuum line. May be disconnected at the engine. No vacuum, no upshift.
January 8, 20188 yr Check the modulator vacuum line. May be disconnected at the engine. No vacuum, no upshift. the governor is what controls upshifts. if you replaced it and it still not shifting, then the gear on the output shaft that drives the governor is toasted. trans is shot.
January 8, 20188 yr Yes, governor and that vacuum modulator. That's it, except for internal failure. Modulator should be number 1 thing to check. If it's original, it should have failed by now.
January 8, 20188 yr Has a basic look been done to it for starters before leaping into harder things, like pan off, inspect and replace filter and fluid. A number of bung plugs on the side can be opened and hooked up for pressure tests - have you any fluid pressure gauges etc Have to admit I got a from you looking for the 3 speeds TCM Lucky I didnt answer first as I might have suggested you follow the wiring connections from the trans to find the module :)I Edited January 8, 20188 yr by jono
January 10, 20188 yr Author Thank you , everyone who replied. I do wonder where i can find reference for the light codes on Electronic Control Module its under the steering column , Hitachi AA 392 has blinking red light ? any ideas?
January 10, 20188 yr That is the engine control unit. The list of codes has been posted in many threads. Count the slow blinks, and the fast blinks as a 2 digit number. Post them, and we can look them up. Slow is 10s place. Fast is 1s place.
