Clutch Kit Question

Featured Replies

When buying a clutch kit that includes a flywheel, is it always a resurfaced flywheel? Like from RockAuto, for a mid-1980s Sube model.

Well, you wouldn't expect it to be a used one, so yes I'm gonna say it will come with a fresh, brand new surface.

I for one would have the step checked if it's an aftermarket new (likely chinese)

I know EA82 step should be .830~.815, I always have mine taken to .815 for the extra clamp force.  On my big lifted EJ'd wheeler I run a .811 step flywheel.

I do not know the step for EA81 4spd clutch.

I didn't mean to indicate considering a used one. I meant new, as opposed to resurfaced.

Luk flywheels say they are always new. Anyone have any experience with Luk brand?

LUK is who supplies Napa, and while I worked there, I never had any return under warranty that weren't blatantly abused/oil soaked. So I'd take that as a good sign.

I typically went with Sachs for my clutch kits, but idk if they're still Japanese/German made.

i've had clutches from autozone, oreilly's and Advance, and they slip like crazy from new (made in China, and some parts from Mexico)

Exedy on the other hand... best $160 i've ever spent (on an Impreza), plus the pilot bearing and throwout bearings actually say made in japan and such, good quality stuff there, grabs like a Motha f*****

Exedy all the way for me.

I was actually stunned and amazed when i ordered brake pads for a 79 Subie through rock auto, actually had the Fuji Heavy Industries Logo on them, wasn't expecting that one, box looked from the late 90s or so though.

Exedy is not showing a clutch kit for my Sube. I would order one from them if they had it.

I have a LUK in my 84 right now. So far I have put 12,000 miles on it with no problems. Most of that has been stop and go city driving too. If you can’t get the exedy, the LUK kit is a fine standin in my opinion. As has already been said, don’t bother with a new flywheel. Just resurface your current one.

What year and model of Subaru are you looking to get a clutch for?

GD

1986 GL wagon, 5 speed. 4WD, SOHC, carbureted, H4 engine. 3rd generation Leone, if that makes a difference

Which Exedy clutch kit do I want for my car, the 15008 or the 15001? I need an answer soon because there is only one left of the 15008 on Amazon.

You need the 15008 for the 4wd EA82.  Should be 225mm, 1" shaft diameter and 24 spline.

Thank you a bunch.

I just ordered the 15008. Naturally it was the more expensive of the two. What is the difference between it and the 15001?
