1995 Legacy 2.2 engine only with OEM ECU in Limp Mode

Featured Replies

1995 2.2 Subaru Legacy engine has transplanted in a VW sand car, I have the 2.2 engine running with the stock ECU although with all the car gone but the engine it is in a limp mode at 3400 + RPM If there is anybody that knows how to circumvent all the limp modes. $$ the ECU is AB414  5602 / It has the gray plug. It idles good and runs good until limp mode. If anybody can help $$ will be appreciated very much.

Thank You Steve

What are the codes ?

Common issue is a cracked Knock Sensor, esp. on the <'95 models.

do you have a VSS speed sensor installed?

Have VSS from Small Car Performance, I will check the knock sensor. Haven't been able drive it long enough to get any codes, any other ideas are very welcome.

Do you have the connectors in the harness to put it in the diagonsitc mode?

there are 2 pairs of single wire diagnostic connectors on older Subarus... one pair is green, the other is black.. they are there for a 95, I know this for fact since I owned one.

they should be UNplugged for normal driving mode.. 95 was a voluntary OBDII setup, Subaru did not have to do that, but they did.. they also left the diagnostic connectors.

I see you are local. We do offer a LINK ECU with adapter harness for the 95 and 96-98 cars. Would be far better than trying to use the factory ECU.
