'80 Brat restoration update (pics added)

Featured Replies

The '80 is running. The chassis and drivetrain has 62,000 miles on it, and feels like it.

Work completed:

- replaced fuel tank

- replaced rear cv shafts

- replaced hood

- replaced exhaust

- installed some ugly spare inside door panels (waiting for moosens for nice ones)

- adjusted rear ride height

- installed trailer hitch

Work to be done:

- install weber carburator

- make new lower inside door panels out of 1/4" mdf to allow for speakers

- install AM/FM/Cassette

- have wheel alignment done

- install various tailgate trim

- paint

- a few odds and ends

Very Cool. I need some pictures.

I get my '81 BRAT back from the painters today. Been polishing chrome all weekend, i'm thinking headlights are next. Some KCs or something. Put a clutch in her, 7 coats of bond-o, two sites of rust removal including a welded patch on the back of both rear fenders. runs like a champ. Need some Krylon for my spoker-rims.

Did you put the rear-facing seats back in? Some jack*** cut mine out w/ a sawsall, so i'm to weld them back with tabs and stuff.

Anyone think rhino-lining the bed is a decent idea? if so, how do you tape off the brackets for the seats so they end up functional, or do i just spray them and scrape to remount the seats?

Workin on it boss man, workin on it.....Good to see so much done so soon. But,now I feel guilty....it's going to take me a couple of weekends to get up there for the '81.

dude if you need some of the trim, I got some for sale if need be. Lemme know if you need anything, I have a thread right now in the Marketplace with a big list of parts I'm selling!!

Hey Klaus, looking real good. I have your hornpad waiting and ready to go. Tommy.....

nice nice nice!

instead of (or before) rhino liner, you might consider POR-15. I'm gearing up to treat my brat with it. excellent rust prevention.

Nice work!

I wish the pictures were closer to show more detail. Looks great! Your well on the way. I used a spray on "rhino" type lining on the buggy. I'd recommend it!

Keep up the good work.
