ea81 guys, i gots a leak

Featured Replies

this new hatch i bought. 84, i think. non hydrolic motor. it leaks oil like a siv. sometimes its ok, and the next minute it will dump a quart on the ground at a stop light! seriously. bat mobile style smoke screen.

i pulled the skidplate, and it looks like its coming from the oil pump. is there anything else up there that can leak? i have an oil pump reseal kit, and im going to try that tomorrow, but thats about the only thing up front to leak oil at pressure right?

The front main seal could leak like that. Also the oil pump has a 2 piece case, and the piece that goes against the block will crack really bad and cause some leaks. Be careful taking the pump out because you can crack that inner case in the process of removal.

if you have a line of oil across the front underside of your hood, the front crank seal is leaking....

my bets would be on the oil pump...

and I have broken a plate before while the pump was still in the engine. royal pain to get the broken pieces out..... slow and carefully.....

Yeah, ditto on being very careful with that oil pump removal. I busted one last summer when it jammed in there while I was attempting to pry it out.
