ea81, and ea82 ball joints the same part?

Featured Replies

anyone know for sure, is it the same part?

ps, i never trust parts stores listings for this stuff.

no the ea81 baljoint stud is fatter than ea82.

what year you lookin for? as far as the parts counter goes, 82-84, 82, 87-89 85-87,89 are your ea81 listings, and your 85-94 listings are ea82. some listings may be 85-89 for ea82

make sure you specify ohc or ohv for ea81 or ea82 respectively.

for ea82 i like to use an 87 4x4 wagon as a listing to use

I told him to quit whineing and use that welder behind him.... he didnt like that idea

ya, those damn parts guys =](in one) i always tell them 87 brat for my ea81 hatchbacks, and 87 wagon for the ea82s.

i was able to fix the threads, so i didnt have to try to use the ea82 balljoint i had in stock.

thanks miles, i woulda tried it, and wasted alot of time in the snow.

What about the width of an EA81 ball joint versus that off an EA82? Specifically the part that slips into the hub, will an EA81 ball joint fit in an EA82 hub? If not, is it larger or smaller?

Same size I believe - it's the control arm part that's different. This thread is ancient BTW.

When they do not search we preach the search function. When they search and find a relevant topic we give them hell for bringing back an old thread.

We need to be consistant.

We need to be consistant.

Hhhhmmm - I hadn't thought of it that way. You are right.

I think a lot of us have fallen into that habit as more times than not threads are ressurected accidentally or by the uninitiated trying to answer someone's question from 4 years ago. It then blows up into more people answering the OP's question - wasting their time and the boards bandwidth answering questions for people that will never return for their answers.

In this case his question was related, so that's actually a good reason to bring it back. It will still likely result in a bunch of replies answering the OP's question, but such is the way of a forum I suppose.

Awesome! I'll have to double check somehow, but at least now I can start hording parts for the swap!
