Hood wont open HELP!

Featured Replies

I can't get my hood to release now.. When I pull on the hood release it just pulls back doing nothing. So how do I get the hood open without breaking the grill and what not

Can you fit a long screw driver through the grille to work the mechanism maybe?

Lay down in front of the car, reach up in front of the radiator, you should be able the reach the latching mechanism and pull the level that the cable connected to.

Have the same thing on my '86. I call it an anti-battery theift system. I did find out, that if you 1st push on the release handle, then pull on it, the mechanism will work as intended. Maybe yours is the same. Worth the try!!!!!!

You'll need to get to the back of the latch somehow, in order to push the spring activated lever.

You might be able to reach it from underneath as mentioned above. If not, you'll have to remove the grill, and then you can easily reach around with your hand to push the lever.

An original pull cable is best, though it can be a pain to route it as it came from the factory. Practice on the junkyard car you get your replacement from before tearing your own car apart. Another way is to fabricate a "pull chain" type of release that hangs under the latch out of sight. You could always use a chain and padlock to secure the hood if you are worried about theives stealing your battery.

good luck, John

old standby... have somebody hit it with their palm, while you pull the lever repetedly.

My hood latch cable is starting to act up.

What's the best way to lubricate it to prevent this poor soul's situation?
