hi

it doesnt matter what kind of oil do i use? if im using half syntetic or full syntetic, and not the cheap oil , the best one , it wont hold for more time?

thank you all for your fast answer.

moshe.

Using synthetic is always best, I don't feel guilty if they run 4,000-5,000 with synthetic in them. That said, I use Castrol Sythetic Blend 10w-30 because I do a lot of city driving, and natural oil gets nasty quickly. I also do mine every 3,000. I also can't afford mobil 1.

NEVER use cheap oil, it will damage your engine ... period. Cheap oils lack certain stabilizers and other things to help them preserve your engine. I personally don't like 10w-40 because it has historically has had gelling issues, but in our engines that should not be much of a problem, because they are not prone to gelling.

I have had good results with mobil one 10w30 in my EA82, can really hear the improvement in cold starting over castrol blend 10w40.

I've got an '83 EA81 wagon with nearly 300.000 miles on it.

It's had a lifetime diet of 10w40 oil, whatever brand was on sale (but not Pennzoil), changed every 5.000 miles or so. Make sure the filter is of good quality.

Just my 2 bucks

today i switched over to amsoil 10w-40 , cost like 5.85 qt ,but you can drive 10,000mi between changes , but change the filter every 5,000mi , wednesday i am going to check into royale purple , there is 1 place i know sells it ,

yah.....3000 mi. is the recommended servicing times. a lot of people say to use synthetics...but if the engine is running over 140k on it, i wouldn't use synthetics. When things start wearing out..synthetic oils are so slippery that the parts won't grab well and will sometimes strip even more. Try a high mileage oil for that.

what if my subaru's have less than 95,000mi on all of them ?????

just use half-synthetics :)

my car has something about 290 000 km + 150 000 km so thats 440 000 km = 275 000 miles. and im using 15-40 W,mineral oil, and changing it every 3000 miles, works prety good, take care

I really don't like the idea of extended drain intervals when using higher quality oils. It's not the oil itself that breaks down. Yes, better additives do help, but they are still not perfect. You need to change the oil often to get the carbon out, as well as the acid that's created by blowby gasses. Mobil 1 doesn't yet commit to extended drain intervals, and no engine manufacturers do. If you do run longer intervals, it is imperative to send out a sample for analysis at the regular interval to see if any crud is in there. Bypass filters are also virtually a necessity.

It doesn't hurt anything to change the oil more often. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic and factory filters in mine and change every 2500-4000 miles depending on use (when it's cold, the oil carbons up quickly) because I know that my engine is better protected that way.

Maybe I'm wrong...

But, I change my oil when it's dirty  I don't change it because the oil companys tell me I need to.

Oil takes quite a bit to have a viscosity breakdown. If you have reached that point you have much more serious problems to worry about.

I have been known to change my oil once a year in my old (still running strong after 22 years) Subie. Of course I may have only driven 5k during that year...

I end up adding a quart every now and then to top it off and delute the dirt

I think the oil change recommendations are promoted by the oil companys and manufactures for their own reasons. Why change clean oil?
