they make some LED replacement bulbs for everything but the headlights, has anyone tried these or think that these would be a good investment? Am planning on smoking out my lenses and would really like to have much brighter bulbs to maintain the safety. the ones in the picture are different replacements for the taillights. Any suggestions/comments?

just go to your local parts store, apc has a set of led replacement bulbs that arent too expinsive

cheaper than this? are they as bright, have as many led's? Am mainly concerned about getting as much visibility and brightness as possible from the bulbs.

The problem with LEDs is that the light is very directional, as opposed to the light a regular bulb gives off, which is very omnidirectional. Unless the face of the LED is pointing where you want the light to go, or you have VERY good reflectors, you won't get near enough light out of them, no matter how bright they are.

 

I used LEDs on my old Nissan - they worked great in the turnsignals, since the bulb was facing outwards, but on the taillamps, where it's sideways, the light was not bright enough.

hmmm good point...will look into it a bit more tomorrow....migut just end up one of each and take some comparrison pictures and write up my own review for everyone who ever might be curious about it.

LEDs are plenty bright. Just about all the frieght trucks on the road have them now.

They are being put in traffic lights now also.

They use less power, run cooler, and last 10x as long.

I *did* try some of the apc? replacement bulbs when they 1st came out, though, and they were definitely not bright enough. I checked the package and they weren't DOT approved.

k, well I looked at the APC ones and they only had a few LEDs, these have around 40...which is the most I have been able to find of this kind.

LEDs are plenty bright when aimed the right direction, as they are in truck tail lights where they're set in a panel facing the desired direction.

Samo's point is very important, though. Enclosed car tail lights are designed to use the omnidirectional light from an incandescent bulb and spread it in the desired directions with reflectors. With those LED replacement bulbs, the light is likely to be very bright when seen from one direction and nearly invisible from every other direction.

a little background quick.... Chevy trailblazers have problems with blowing tail lights.... My folks own one of these beasts.

 

My dad had a bulb blow so he decided to replace it with an LED unit from the parts store. He only did one bulb (figuring the other side will die soon) and the difference is very noticable and not in a good way either. He is planning on putting an incadesent back in ASAP.

It seems to me that if the replacement bulbs are installed under the stock lenses, the reflectors would still work, as long as they are bright enough.

The HyperLED ebay site says that there are six of the bulbs mounted radially to shine to the side.

I didn't see anything about a DOT rating, though.

Sounds like a good thing if they fit in the socket. I'm thinking the head may be too big for some applications.

subeman90, what kind of bulb went in the blazer? How many LEDs per bulb?
