ea82 carb/manifold, on a ea81?

Featured Replies

ok... so the manifold from an ea82 would be a performance upgrade for an ea81(because its got bigger ports... but would the carb be one too, were the carbs any bigger for the ea82s or were they just given slightly fatter jets?

Just going by the original carb for my '82's original engine, and comparing it to the one on the engine in it now. Yes, it would be an upgrade. Old carb = Carter Weber, carb now = Hitachi, or single barrel vs progressive 2 barrel. Gotta make a difference to the + side, I would think........

the EA81 carbs were not all carter / weber's - most were in fact hitachi's similar to the EA82 version - not sure if there was any difference in the primary / secondary bore sizes, but there was a feedback version, and a non-feedback version. The EA82 only got the feedback type I think. Anyway - if your going to all that trouble, you might as well drop in the SPFI from an EA82 instead. You just have to make slight mods to the EA82 disty, and grab the ECU and wire it all up.

I've got an '88 hatch with a 2Bbl hitachi that is a feedback hitachi. It looks identical (of what I've seen) to EA82 hitachis. Can't wait for the day when It has a weber and no O2 sensor. (three way cat with no 02 sensor bung)

I don't know if the actual bore sizes are any different, but I do know that the hitachi from an ea82 will not go onto an ea81 intake manifold because the bottom of the carb is too big.

i have only seen feedback carbs/with the o2 sensor, on ea81 cars... never on a ea82. i thought the ea82s only came with the 1 carb, and the ea81s had the options. im just looking for a quick hp boost, before i do a efi swap.
