What's the secret to getting my rear dfrost to work?

Featured Replies

The fuse is good. I checked, and where it conects on both sides seem solid. Pulled them apart, cleaned them some, put them back together. Nothing.

Help?

Maybe a long shot but I think I remember someone here writing about a connection under the driver's or the passenger's seat. Maybe there is corrosion there...

The 97 Legacy GT I just bought had a non-functional rear defroster. Dealership fixed it before I bought it. They found a broken connection in the rear under the trim and resoldered it. They didn't say exactly where unfortunately, but he did say he had all of the rear trim apart looking for it.

Check for continuity in the wire bundles that are wrapped in rubber between the body and the hatch, my defrost works, but my rear wiper dosn't, its probably the same issue, just different wires.

Rear wiper, there is a relay buried behind the left rear panel that you have to hunt for. It may be dead.

Rear Defroster, there is a relay on a panel under the dashboard on the left side panel. all i can tell is that is grouped tail light and main fan relay, somewhere near the fuse panel, or possibly on it.

Also take a meter and check for continuity on both connectors of the grid. Its probably the relay or the switch

I'll second the broken wires in the rubber tube between the hatch & body. My rear wiper did the same. Along w/ the relay... if you chop open the relay, and clean the contacts the rear wiper won't be as sissy....

so yeah, i'd check the relay for the rear defroster, and the wire bundles.
