Featured Replies

Hello, I have a 94 auto 4wd loyale, I want to stay with auto is there another tranny (other then the stock loyale tranny) that will fit in it and if so is there anything that needs to be adapted, thanks...... I put mine in gear and it sits and then finally it will go...

If you have the 3 speed automatic, this is the 3at transmission and one of the typical problems is the easily fixed "governor gear assembly" - do a search.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? (Driver's side dipstick.) Check for level and color/smell.

The alternative 4wd auto trans is the 4 speed 4eat trans that came in the XT and RX models. This would mechanically fit, but would also require some linkage and electrical changeover. You would also have to match the rear differentials.

and GL-10's

if none of those would work, you could go hydro or ecvt

my favorite is a 5spd!

when was the last time the fluid was changed? The 3ATs are very picky as to the quality and quantity of fluid in them.

When I had a car with the 3AT, I fixed the same problem you're describing by doing a fluid change, and then making sure it had the correct amount of fluid afterwards.

i have a 3AT and absolutely hate it. leaks from everywhere, doesn't shift properly or smoothly regardless of how much/little/clean fluid is in it. checked the gov. gear, was fine. i am now trying to kill it so i have an excuse to toss a 4sp d/r in there. i like the feeling of controlling my tranny as well as my engine.
