May 5, 200619 yr I just got off the phone with the editor/owner of a Canadian 4X4 magazine (http://can4x4.com/). In the latest issue, he mentioned to a reader that he would like to come to my area this year for some exploring in the hills. So, I phoned him up and extended an invite. We talked for 15-20 min about the prospects, and he seems very interested in coming out late July/early August. I kind of left it to him, as he has a busy schedule the next few months, with runs into the states for an ARB tour, their own Off-Road Challenge in July, and shows and runs all over Western Canada, but he is pretty keen on coming up here (I'm only a 4-hr drive from him). So here's the deal: I told him it would be ideal if he could give me at least a week or two notice, so I could get a group together. Terrain around here is mostly mountains, not so much mud, some rock action, lots of moderate to difficult trails. He will most likely be in a new FJ cruiser, so we don't expect to tackle epic terrain. I may work it into a ghost town tour of the local mining areas, to give a good mix of scenery and trails. Anyone who thinks they may be interested can post here and I will keep it updated. It is not guaranteed to happen, but I'm really trying. I may see if it can be pushed to the beginning of Sept, as there is a hotrod show here the 8-9 and he is also starting a 'Rod magazine this year. (two birds with one stone) BTW: I'm in Nelson, BC. 2.5 hrs north of Spokane, WA 9 hrs NE of Seattle 7 hrs N/NW of Missoula, MT
May 5, 200619 yr Author BTW: Don't expect any snow;) I will either shotgun or run my Loyale (depending on when I get the D/R swapped in)

May 5, 200619 yr Author Yah, I casually mentioned Subarus in our conversation and he didn't sound surprised. (mentioned Reiter's and Walker Valley - they had been in the area for last year's Detroit Locker Trail Tour) I didn't say specifically that Subarus would be involved in the trip, but thought I would try to arrange it to add a good twist to the outing. There are also a few 'Mogs in town, as well as the usuall Jeeps and Toys, etc. We could end up with a large group! We'll see what happens.
May 6, 200619 yr i need to look at a map.you are to close not to do this.i imagine baccaruda and i could both come up.that would be sweet.
May 7, 200619 yr why do i have to live in the least cool part of the continent...minus california... Ditto. I live in Pa as well, by MD. This place sucks....
May 8, 200619 yr Dude, I KNOW you're not claiming Pittsburgh PA is cooler than any where in California...
May 9, 200619 yr Author Right. Not to get off topic or anything. Anyways, for those thinking of coming out, what kind of terrain would you like to tackle? It may end up being a 2-day event, with either a campout or just a stay in town, and out again on another excursion.
May 23, 200619 yr Author Started scouting trails today. Found a really long (20KM's) road I had not been on before, but it was pretty boring. Just have to wait for the high-up snow to melt some more, I guess. That's where the good stuff is.
May 23, 200619 yr hey dude! i should so come out to this... i've been going to VIC meets... they are great and all but i wanna get my car a little dirty... mind you i can't beet my car at all... i've gone to stave lake and such... didn't do you many nutty things... so when we hit really tough terrain i might just hop into a car with one of you guys...(if thats alright ofcourse:)) i quickly looked through the posts... when a date is set i'll check/clear my list of stuff to do... where exactly you want to hold this? in nelson? i might not be able to afford to go if its to far away from me...

But you've got to be 35 hours from Anchorage. Just a bit too far.
May 23, 200619 yr Author Nelson area. Nelson will be 'home base'. There's lots of choices for accomodation here, hostels and such even (nice ones, too). You'd need to budget for gas and food, it's ~650-700km each way to get here.
September 1, 200619 yr Author OK, unfortunately (due to an extra busy schedule mentioned in the first post), this will not be happening this year. I may try to actually schedule a trail ride for next year, and invite him to it. That way, we all have more time to plan, and once he's scheduled in, it's very unlikely he will cancel.
