95 Legacy Getting Hot

Featured Replies

Hi,

I replaced my thermostat, with the subaru OEM, put in new anitfreeze, and the car ran well for about an hour. Then it started to get hot as I was idling at a train stop. Turned around turned the heat on and drove and it cooled down.

Then engine light is still on and it seems to run hot. I have plenty of heat when I turn it on, but that seems to make it run cooler.

Help!!!!!

This is my wifes car and she needs it to get around.

how did you bleed the air out of the cooling system after you drained it? what was your check engine light on for before you replaced the thermostat?

Was it over heating before you did the work? If not you probally have air in the radiator.

Yes it was. It actually was worse. The enigne light was on before also.

If it runs cool while moving and overheats while idling it sounds like the fan is not coming on. Check the fan and the fan switch. Getting the air out of the system should help also but might not be the cause of the overheating when idling.

OK. I will check it. Not to sound dumpt, but maybe, not knowledgeable.

Where is the fan switch?

Also, how to I get rid of air if it is in there?

Thanks for the help.

OK. I replaced the Elcectric Thermostor Control Sensor. Wow what a lot of stuff to go through.

Now it doesn't really start. It sputters, and spits. Then it will die.

HELP. HELP HELP

put the old sensor back in. Your car is old enough to have a corroded or clogged radiator. is it worse with the AC on. Since the heat brings down the temp you can rule out a blown HG. Check for air in the cooling system.

Well, I got my Legacy fixed. I had to take to a local Subaru Repair Place, it was recommended by the Snap-On Driver that comes into my store.

It would appear that when I tried to repair the car I sort of messed it up. They fixed it and O2 Sensor and it works great.

Only cost 290 to have it done. No complaints. It's my wifes car and to have it work right is worth it.
