October 18, 200619 yr unless you want to mess with the viscous coupleing in there, i'd leave it be...
October 18, 200619 yr No doubt that a rear wheel drive BAJA would be super cool .....but I dunno.:-\ Seems like youd be asking for trouble.
October 18, 200619 yr There is no "jumper" on manual trannys. There is so much you can do with the AWD. I wouldn't give up the AWD for anything.
October 18, 200619 yr Author In the manual it says the jumper is only for automatics, but it still works on sticks, atleast mine.
October 18, 200619 yr i recall seeing a sport compact car magazine that had a flat black wrx on the cover about 2 years or so ago that had a how to go rear wheel drive article
October 18, 200619 yr Weld the front differential would be my best guess. However, going to RWD w/ a AWD tranny is a real pain because it isn't electronics and especially not on a MT tranny. Sounds like you need to have one special built if you want RWD.
October 18, 200619 yr Author welding the front differential would only give me really bad awd and mess everything up.
October 18, 200619 yr welding the front differential would only give me really bad awd and mess everything up. Then I would suggest going and finding a different tranny and converting it to RWD. It's going to require some major changing of the internals, but it can be done.
October 18, 200619 yr How can the jumper work on manual trannys. A manual tranny is mechanicaly controlled, how can a electric device overide it. A auto tranny is electronically controlled hence the reason the electrical jumper can override the center diif/clutch pack I really don't think the jumper works on your manual car. I know on mine I dont even have a place for the fuse to go in.
October 18, 200619 yr biggest problem is that the all the halfshafts and drivelines are designed to accommodate a small portion of the engine power. converting to rwd you would probably want new axles that can handle the power of the engine. modify the engine any and you would need these. besides, why? rwd trucks are pointless. and i remember reading that scc article. and iirc, they needed to do the above (it was in one of those box thingys). one of the japanese drift squads runs rwd wrxes, but they use skyline rear diffs and beefier axles too.
October 18, 200619 yr Author I just really like RWD, beside my truck is pretty close to 50/50 so it's going to hold. About the strength, I have the sport, not the turbo, and they have the same parts so I should be fine.
October 18, 200619 yr Author Last I heard Ford made a 150 with rear wheel drive already! All Ford trucks are RWD
October 18, 200619 yr ford makes 4wd trucks. you just gotta order the right packages and what not. and no, your axles won't hold all of that load. they will break eventually. if its a turbo baja, they will snap sooner.
October 18, 200619 yr Author But the axles aren't receiving any more torque or load, the physics of them are not changing
October 18, 200619 yr I think they would also. now they get about half the load in a full accelleration, in a two wheel drive they would get all the load.
October 18, 200619 yr All Ford trucks are RWD What about the Ford Escape? the Edge? The Freestar? the Freestyle? :)
October 18, 200619 yr But the axles aren't receiving any more torque or load, the physics of them are not changing Actually they'd be recieving about twice as much. The center diff and viscous coupling can only transfer half the power to the rear. What most people do is get something like a welded center diff and take out the front axles. There is a company somewhere that sells some other part you need.
October 18, 200619 yr I have a 2006 Baja stick and want to change it to RWD. Any ideas? Its not impossible, but not recomended (and i am not going to say how either). The vehical is not designed for RWD as far as balance, the ABS and depending what level of awd you have. You will void your warrenty Your better off just selling it or trading it in for a RWD pickup truck. And why? nipper
October 18, 200619 yr And why?nipper I gotta second this. Seems to me, one of the things that sets Subaru aside from the rest of the crowd is AWD. Going to RWD kinda defeats the purpose of getting a Subie, doesn't it?
October 18, 200619 yr Author What about the Ford Escape? the Edge? The Freestar? the Freestyle? :) I said trucks. F.Y.I. the Escape will have AWD soon.
October 19, 200619 yr I said trucks.F.Y.I. the Escape will have AWD soon. i thought it already did nipper
