Squeaky Clutch Pedal?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Recently I started to notice when I push my clutch pedal down, i hear a loud squeak? any ideas?

How old is your clutch cable?

When does it squeek sepcifically.

How old is the clutch

Usually that's the nylon bushings on the pedal pivot wanting grease. But as long as you are down there might as well replace the cable too.

not sure how old the cable is, got the car a few months ago, started squeeking maybe 2 weeks ago.

how hard is it to change the cable and what kind of grease should i use.

Good rule of thumb is when you replace the clutch, replace the clutch cable too if so equiped.

It may squuek for some time, but when it snaps, well, ive done it, but its a *************** driving a car that needs a clutch with no clutch.

Lithium grease in a spray can. close your eyes and blast all pedal hinges

thx guys

I wrote this for EA81's but the EA82 is similar - just easier on the pedal side:

I disagree. I've done both, and I think the EA81 is easier myself. A little less standing on my head under the dash :brow: But either isn't that bad, compared to a friend's volvo -- have to get it up on the lift to even find the clutch end of the cable underneath. :banghead:

Having done all THREE (there's two types of EA81 cable mounts) multiple times, the EA82 is far easier on the pedal end.

anyone in the philadelphia/central jersey area want to help change my cable this week?

the cable is straight forward to replace. the best advice i think i can give you isn't spefically instructions, but either take pictures or look very closely at how the cable is attached the pedal assembly. it's very simple and straight forward but it's also easy to go and put the new one on and say "how did that go again?". same with the nuts and rubber boots on the trans side. but really it's a very easy job to do, it's just a little intimidating the first time since it's new. once you're in there you'll be most annoyed if you have to do this outside.

yea i do have to do this outside, this week, so probably in the snow.... :dead:

i guess do it with the car warm so you can blast the heat at your "feet" or hands in this case. start practicing standing on your head inside so you're good on the floorboard when it's cold out.

am I supposed to lube up the new cable before installing(yes?) and with what?(white lithium grease?)
