mounting tow points on a impreza

Featured Replies

i'm back. :headbang:

with questions.

Where can i mount some tow points. After getting dicked over by a certain someone, i have no steel bumper to put mounts on. Cant i put hooks or d-rings anywhere else?

Just weld them to the body panels, they can take it

There's not really many stock locations for tow points on an impreza... besides the stock ones... does that make sense?

get a hitch for it... mine got me out of some pretty nasty stuff before

I don't know what kind of regulations or whatnot you may have for tow points. but most local places require BOLT-on tow points. not weld-on. that way they can look at the bolts, and see that they're grade 5 1/2" or bigger...and be done.

it's alot harder to check a weld

long story short, it'll be VERY difficult without making a steel bumper and integrating the two point into that.

the bolt on receiver/hitches, they at least spread across the bottom of the car and bolt in place. you could bolt this on and add to it if necessary. weld it to the vehicle or weld more metal to the receiver/hitch and bolt that to the vehicle. someone just posted hitches on XT's at xt6.net and they have all sorts of metal extensions going back and being bolts under the car for extra mounting points. and they used *that* to tow other cars with, so using a receiver hitch seems much safer than that.

yep, receiver would be great for the back....but still have to figure something out for the front.

or put an EA81 push bar on it, like Austins imp. didn't look too difficult. and it was sturdy! I dragged him off of some gnarly stuff last fall by it.

there's an EAxx push bar for $50 for sale in the classifieds.

yours doesn't have front tow points? the XT6 has tow hooks up front?

the OBS has 2 loops in the front, and one loop in the rear, and another 'tow point' on the left rear by the muffler, it's not a loop, but a big hole in a metal plate...

I've used all of those to pull the car out of nastyness...none let go.. yet...

its not hard to build your own bumper/brushguard. i plan on building another one that has a 2 inch reciever hole in it so i can plug and play with hitches, or whatever. i want to mount my winch to on so i can move it to the front or the rear, and when im not using it, keep it nice and dry in cargo, away from potential thieves also:headbang:
