Removing Door Ding Strips

Featured Replies

Has anyone done this to their EA81s or have pictures of it? I'm mostly interested in pics and what people did to fill in the holes in the doors?

do it right or it'll fall out. Weld the hole , grind it down and use some bondo...

If you can get to the back side of the metal, you can tack weld some sheet metal pieces to cover the hole, then bondo on the outside. Or I guess you can use JB Weld to keep the sheet metal in place too. Just 1 or 2 inch squares of metal.

Weld, then knock down slightly with a hammer so there's a shallow dimple. You don't want bondo exposed on the inside, and you don't want the bondo very thick - as thin as possible. Thus the welded hole, and a shallow dimple to fill.

if you cant weld it, you could always creat a dent and then use a patch kit over the dent and then bondo over that. that way the bondo is not exposed on the other side.

Hehe, the ol Bondo the hole thing. The bondo can usually comes with screens to use as a backing behind the hole, that's what I did. But only on one door I replaced on the wagon. High build primer and a sanding block will make it smooth as a Standard door. BTW, is there such thing as a Standard Wagon?

I was planning on welding the holes. Has anyone done this to their cars and have pics? To answer your wagon question, there were never standard wagons ever produced by the factory.

I have a set of gen 1 fenders that I shaved the trim on and was planning on doing it to my old '78 Brat. Never got around to finishing it though. The fenders look awesome, even though I also shaved the side marker lights that were in them:grin:
