Chris W. Posted April 29, 2007 Share Posted April 29, 2007 This morning Daughters 93 Impreza wouldn't start... Tried to jump it, no go. Put in a known good battery, still no go... Check engine light is NOT on (so I assume there are no codes to read?). Checked all the fuses, all good... I can not hear the fuel pump when I turn the ignition on? (the fuel pump on my Loyal is obvious). I did a search, and found that fuel pumps rarely fail (but can). sensors can go bad, but no check engine light? What should I be looking for??? lmdew Posted April 30, 2007 Share Posted April 30, 2007 Most Likely the starter contacts. You can replace the contacts for about $10 or so. Are the Lights on bright? Always a good idea to check the cables and make sure there clean and tight. You can put jumpers right to the starter and see if it spins. After reading my first post, I realised I wasn't so clear The car does indeed crank over, so I know the starter is doing it's job. It acts as though is't not getting fuel or spark, I don't smell any gas after turning it over? What is the best way to check for spark on EJ motors? What is the best way to check fuel delivery? nipper Posted April 30, 2007 Share Posted April 30, 2007 Lets start waith basics, when was the last time ANYTHING was done on the car, tune up, timing belt etc. Next check for spark while someone else cranks the engine over. How handy are you with tools? nipper The car was resealed and tuned up at 220K, so she's gone a little over 20K since. I don't know how handy I am, but I've managed to change my timing belts (twice, along with seals, oil pump rebuild etc.) and hange an an axle on my Loyale. lmdew Posted May 1, 2007 Share Posted May 1, 2007 If you have spark, pull the intake duct and pour a little gas in. Put the duct back on and start it up. If it starts and runs for a short time, its a fuel problem. With that many miles on it, it could be the pump, filter or electrical. If you need a pump, get a Subaru pump! I've seen lots of off brands fail. I'd take a used Subaru pump to a aftermarket any day. I just got one from my local yard for $11 yesterday. I've had very little time to check on things...(already worked 50+ hours this week). I did check to see if there was any voltage getting to the pump, there wasn't If there is a relay, it isn't doing it's thing..... So, can you tell me where the realy is, and can it be checked? Cougar Posted May 4, 2007 Share Posted May 4, 2007 My info says the relay is behind the left side of the dash. Look for a connector with 4 contacts for the relay. Pin 1 is yellow. Pin 2 is Lt green-blk. Pin 3 is Yel-grn. Pin 4 is Blk-red and goes to the pump. Pin 2 supplies the power from #2 fusible link and switches to pin 4, so if you jumper the contacts as a test, the pump should run. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
