What is that hole for?

Featured Replies

Sorry for a silly question -- but what is that hole I have on intake right near PCV (if I am not mistaken) hose which comes on top of the intake manifold. I tried it with finger while reving engine-- no vacuum was felt. So I guess it is not intended for anything -- then what is it for?

Maybe just a bolt hole?

it is too deep to connect anything imho. Since I never took the intake off I am not sure on its "under" shape and what volume is functional -- At first I just wondered - may be there used to be a plug and the hole was to ease measurement of the pressure inside of the intake... but as I said when I checked it with finger -- I didn't feel any suction while engine was running.

I will check it more carefully tomorrow ;-)

I wonder if H4s also have it at all... or do all H6 have it simply open?

It can just be a hole used during the mfg process.

being in a low spot on the intake, it could be a drain, so water (etc) doesn't collect a little pool. probably just a straight hole drilled through to the bottom, between all the runners.

just a thought, not absolute knowledge.

Just a drain hole. I second that. And I've had my head under many a Subaru's bonnet/hood and never seen anything connected down there.

is that not the hole to put the +250 BHP module in???

Have seen more holes in the block at various locations, some with threats and without, which apperent do not have any function at my setup.

Looks like the knock sensor hole to me!

::EDIT:: Yes, it looks like the knock sensor hole from where I can see the throttle cables.

the knock sensor hole is on the shortblock not the intake manifold on the 90's EJ series engines.

I've seen that on every ej22 intake manifold I've laid my hands on. Its a casting hole, nothing of major concern

Oh. Somehow that hole looks like it's in the shortblock. Maybe I just saw something wrong...
